Picked up a box of Federal Spitfire Hyper-Velocity hollow point 31 grain.
Has anybody had any experience with this 1500 FPS round?
How does it compare with strandard ammo?
What amount of drop is there at 100 yds.?
Is this okay so use in a Marlin 39A?
TIA

The Jaeger AP-74 I got from my wife's brother goes through that stuff like a fat kid with a bag of candy - it is the only ammo that is trouble-free with that thing!

Not the most accurate stuff out there though. About on par with CCI Stinger. It is NOT target ammo! As for drop at 100yds, I couldn't tell you - most of my .22 pest shooting is done at 50yds or less.

I haven't used the Spitfire, but the ballistics of it are comparable to the Rem Yellowjacket, and likely less than the CCI Stingers.
Here's a large ballistic table for velocity and energy of most 22 rimfire ammo available. They show at the bottom of the table that high velocity 22 ammo has around 3" of drop to 100yds, and I would expect less than that for the Spitfire/Yellowjacket rounds.

CCI Velocitors are a good choice too, and actually run very close to advertised velocity over my chronograph and are quite accurate in my rimfire rifles. Something other brands often do not live up to over my chrono.
Aguila SuperMaximum's are rated @ 1750fps but in reality run in the mid 1500fps range, but are noticeably more potent on target than regular high velocity ammo.

Same experience here with my AP-80 (the AK .22 clone imported my mitchell arms). It likes the spitfires, which is good because we bought a case of the stuff and found out it wouldn't feed reliably in the 10/22.
I don't recall the drop at 100yds but considering most high velocity .22 will drop about a 3"-10" at 100yd I'd say somewhere between 2"-8" I did hit a sage rat at 300yd but aimed about 6 feet over it. was like shooting a mortar :)
It should work fine in your rifle
