Off topic, but Whiterook, What was the name of that show your avatar comes from? and the actor? I remember liking it, but that's all I can remember. Damn old age....

I am not he, but it reminds me of "Combat".

I have had 40 SW brass split like that and worse, shatter would be more descriptive. It has always been after quite a few firings.

I've had some pretty gnarly case splits but the OP's is really something.

I've used and purchased my share of once fired brass. Except for once fired cases that I generate, I've pretty much decided to only purchase new cases. Kind of like Forest Gump's box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get with purchasing once fired cases.

Can't say that I've ever seen a spiral split like that. Definitely one worth looking at.

Thanks for posting.

"once fired"

This always makes me laugh. Like there's a little odometer in the brass that tells you how many times it has been fired.

Asking a range brass seller how many times brass has been fired is like asking your tinder date how many guys she has been with... if the answer even matters to you, you're in the wrong conversation.

Had an ancient 45 70 case just shatter on its 3rd reloading by me. Lord knows how old it was. When I got em they were loaded with black powder and ancient powdered "lube".

Then I had a steel cased .308 just pop the head off. Thank god for the Mauser brothers search for perfection and safety.

Here is one, a .38 Special that I ran through the size/deprime operation and noticed the split. A lot of folks opine about the cause/why brass splits and I just chunk mine in the recycle can and forget about it. Maybe this one will make the honorable mention tag.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Most impressive!
