I shoot a lot of Rem golden bullets out of my .22 conversion kit for my Glock 17. I have to because it's the only bulk ammo it likes, not that I'm complaining because its normally good ammo and well priced. But recently I have gone through half a pack of a 550 box and had 3 split cases! I am so glad nothing has gotten damaged. Everytime I notice what feels like a weak cartridge it ends up being a split case.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? Is this at all common? I've never seen this before in any .22 ammunition. Maybe I just got a bad batch. But I'm seriously considering not using the golden bullets because I don't want my precious frame to get damaged. What should I do?:uhoh: I'll upload the images as soon as I charge the batteries for my camera.

I haven't had the split cases, but the Remington Golden doesn't cycle properly through my Buckmark. I've had good luck with the copper plated Federal 22LR. I buy it at Walmart for about $14 per brick.

I've had this happen quite a few times with Remington Golden Bullets out of my P22. They usually get so stuck I need a wooden dowel down the barrel to push them out.

I had to push the cases back out with a rod also. They were expanded and stuck in the chamber. Maybe I should just throw the whole box out, I don't want any damage. I guess someone is overloading the cartridges at the factory.

Silly question maybe, but I thought I'd ask it.

I shot a box of Golden Bullets when I got my first .22 (a Beretta Neos). Most of the shots seemed to scatter something stinging across my right hand. I assume it was still burning powder or something--felt like the bits of red hot metal that bounce back onto the arms/hands when using an angle grinder. I also had several in the box (>5) that failed to fire.

Did I just end up with a really bad box or what? The gun seems to work fine with other stuff I've tried.

I don't want any damage.

Your not going to get any gun damage from .22 lr ammo.

You may cause some damage if you aren't careful and ding up the muzzle crown with a metal rod removing a stuck shell.

Ben,

I'm in the same boat as you with my 22lr conversion on my G26. CCI MiniMags are 100% good so far, and they are what I buy for that use. The Rem Goldens worked fine too, but I only had 250 rounds of that.

I also had good luck with High Velocity Aquila (one box of 50). I also had some of the 60gr sub sonic Aquila (one box of 50) and the 30 or so rounds of that that I shot through the Advantage Arms conversion worked well.

I try other things now and then, but pretty much always come back to the tried and true (and US made!) Mini-mags. I keep an eye out for them on sale and stock up when I find them.

I've also had problems with the Remington golden bullets. Of the two boxes I shot I've had many misfires (~10-15 per box) and I've also noticed that several of the spent cases were split. In addition I came across one cartridge that had a miscast bullet (looked like a regular bullet except it had an extra half bullet sitting off to the side).

I now spend a couple more bucks and get the cheap CCI ammo because it doesn't have nearly so many problems.

Yes. I have recently had multiple bulk packs of Remington golden with repeated split cases :uhoh: I think its time I stop giving Remington a chance and just stick with bulk Federal for around $14 x 550! I just have better luck with other, also don't like Remington UMC 380

The extra 2 dollars or whatever seems well worth it. Also less trigger 'clicks' with no bang in my Ruger mkIII when avoiding remington golden.

Must be something going on with new batches. I'm still working on the last of a couple of cases of bulk pack boxes I bought several years ago as part of a group deal.

In over 5K rounds of use in a myriad of makes and models of RF long and hand guns I've never had a split case - not once.

There's gotta be something FUBAR in the Remington works someplace if this is actually a common occurance with recent lots.

Just MO, but I reckon I'll shoot up the rest of what I have eventually. I ain't eating anything and it's paid for.
