Over the past year, I've shot a little over 20K shells through a Kolar O/U. The trigger is everything you could ask for... crisp break, light pull, no creep. Truly, it would be worthy of a match rifle. The only gun I've got with a better trigger is a Model 15 S&W, when it's shot in SA mode.

Well, on Wednesday, I was shooting some preserve birds with an old Ithaca Model 37. One rooster got up very close. I switched off the safety, swung on the bird and pulled the trigger. It didn't budge. I tried moving the safety again, but it felt like it was already all the way to the left. Again, it didn't shoot.

Finally, I flipped the gun on its side and pushed the safety with all my might. It was definitely off. I brought the gun up onto the bird, which was now around 50 yards out and PULLLLLLED hard. The gun fired fine and the bird dropped to the ground.

What I've found is that the trigger pull on the Ithaca is probably close to 10 lbs with a bit of creep, while the Kolar is crisp and around 3.5 lbs. My mind was telling me that the gun should be firing, but I just wasn't pulling hard enough.

It was interesting. When I had first switched to the Kolar, the trigger pull felt light in comparison to most of the guns I'd been shooting. Now, it's the norm, and it's the other guns which feel different.

That happens, TR. When I got the WOP gun, The triggers were heavier than I was used to, 5 lbs and change. Now they seem fine and the 870s a bit light.

Eventually I'll get them fixed, but for now I settle for wearing them in.
