I'm not sure what to buy - a SA milspec or Rock Island Match. I have around $600-$700 to spend and would be using the 1911 for shooting at the range at 25yrds and would like an accurate 1911. I don't think I can afford a SA loaded usually $750 and above otherwise it would not really be a question. The Rock Island Match has me very interested to say the least. I have only seen good reviews on this 1911 and the warrenty/customer service seems to be on par w/ SA. The RI Comes w/ match trigger and barrel, a hand fitted frame to slide, target sights w/ front fiberoptic sight, and an extended beaver tail :). I really like all the extras on the RI compared to the SA mil spec since I figure I will be adding them later anyways. I have been looking on gun broker currently but if anyone knows of any better deals please let me know.

Bite the bullet ( :D ) and buy the Springfield "Loaded" model. You'll be glad you did everytime you pull the trigger.

And you'll save money in the long run, since you'll want to put all that stuff on a Mil-spec anyway. (presuming the mil-spec configuration didn't irritate you too much and you sold it, damning all 1911's as "crap" in the process)

If you're thinking about adding as you go with a mil-spec, do some research as to how much the enhancements will actually cost you. Sights, for example, can easily run $200 or more, installed.

No personal experience, but the STI Spartan gets generally good reviews. It too has a fiber optic sight, and the major components are made by the same company that makes RIA.

If it's of help, I currently own the Springfield loaded w/ night sights. It's been a perfectly reliable pistol (except for one issue that I solved this week, it's not related to the quality of the pistol in any way). I was going back and forth between it and the Mil-spec (not the GI). To be honest, I often wonder if I shouldn't have gone with the Mil-spec!

If I had to 'do it all over again', I'd get the Mil-spec and spend the rest on Wilson mags and ammo.

This gun will last you for the rest of your life, save the extra money and get the Springfield loaded.

That is very true. I say that with first hand experience. I went cheap with the Mil Spec, got the stainless version and with the money I will have spent in buying night sights and having the machining done to install them, I would've came out quicker and cheaper with the Loaded model.
