I came back from a buisness trip yesterday to find that my house had been broken into and 10 of my guns were stolen. As angry as I am right now, I have to make a public thank you to Springfield Armory.
First off, I don't have a safe, and that's my own stupid fault.
Back in '04 I bought a used Springfield 5" 1911. A few months later, the aftermarket front sight made a sudden departure from the gun, taking with it a large piece of the slide. I was devastated, figuring I was out on my own, being that I was not the original owner, and that it was a poorly installed aftermarket part that caused the failure. I sent it into Springfield Armory, figuring that at the best, they could sell me a new slide and fit it to the gun. Well, they fixed that gun. It's probably wearing a new slide, but they put the aftermarket sights back on, this time the right way. They also re-Parkerized the whole gun, and sent it back, no charge.
Well, in my idiocy, I never recorded the serial number off of the gun, and I didn't buy it off of a shop that might have records. I called up Springfield Armory, and a very helpful guy named Matt got me the serial number from the fix-it department.
There's no way that Springfield has made any money off of that gun. But because of their truly superior customer service, I might get my gun back. Either way, they are the only people that I'll go to for 1911s from now on.
