I've never seen any 1911 with grips like those, but unless I'm mistaken, they bear Springfield's logo, so they might be from Springfield's custom shop? Also, the mag release looks to have been tinkered with; kinda looks like it's a standard mag release button with an extra ring around it.

No clue about the other stuff. Someone more knowledgeable will be around soon. These types of threads are usually answered pretty quickly.

Thanks for the reply bud. I think i got this gun at a good deal. I would love to know more about it, and just from pics, i can't hardly tell the difference in one model vs another

also on top of the slide. right behind the front sight , it is ported . it has 4 port holes. is this a factory feature or someones elses doing?

No its not all factory, the rear sight and front sight, along with the grip, thumb safety and slide stop are aftermarket additions. Other then that, and considering that I cannot peer at its internals, its just a lightly customized Springfield Service model.

Based on the slide serrations and the roll marks, this gun looks like it was a Springfield GI at one point in it's life, but not any more. The grips are Hogues, and the mag release, trigger, grip safety, thumb safety, sights, and slide release are all non-factory parts. Add in the fact that there is set of Bo-mar sights, and I'd say this was somebody's attempt at a race gun. Just an uneducated guess, mind you... Looks like someone put some money into this one, too. If you're into it, you sure got a deal. If you aren't into the 1911.... send it to me. :)

If you call / email Springfield with the S/N they'll tell you the build date and what model it left the factory as.

I do alot of custom coatings on guns, I can put about the same coating on this , that kimber puts on their 1911's ( the black satin to semi gloss one. whats everyones thoughts on this hindering or helping the value of this particular gun? Cuz i know alot of times, mods, hurt the value more than they help, but i doubt this is any kind of collectors item.

It does look like a Springfield GI with a bunch of added parts
The grips are Hogue rubber wraparounds and the sight set are Milletts.

As already said, the mag release, trigger, extended slide stop, grip safety and thumb safety are all aftermarket add-ons....they look a bit like parts from an AMT. Knowing that, I would expect the FLGR to also be an after market item. Given all this, I'd also suspect that there was internal action work done. I'd say this was more someone's project gun than a race gun...the beavertail seems nicely fitted. It is odd that they didn't add an extended magwell or lower the ejection port.

Are the ports part of a rib attached to the barrel or just holes in the top of the slide?...makes a huge value difference
If they are holes in the slide, are there matching holes in the barrel below?

All of this hurts the resale value, unless the seller found a buyer who wanted everything that was added...in which case it could be a win-win

If bought as a shooter, I'd say it was worth $500. As the base for a build, I'd pay maybe $250 for it

Yea. Looks like an old Milspec with a bunch of aftermarket parts. The NM serial number is a good thing. I say Milspec and not GI because of the forward raking cocking serrations. I could be wrong. The sights, grips, grip safety, trigger, thumb safety, slide stop, mag release, and hammer are all aftermarket.

It does not appear the money originally invested was well spent. There are hints that this was a project pistol such as the sights, rear not milled thus requiring a tall front, frame not straightened, note the wavy line below the S/N, standard ejection port.

Zero doubt it's a Frankengun BUT if it shoots and functions well who cares. I'd suggest a full detail strip, cleaning and function check before range time. Single load the first mag. followed by 2 rounds then 3 JIC.

It wouldn't take much to return it to something resembling stock form, aside from the mystery porting (can we get a pic?) with a bit of work. One tip, take it outside for pics if possible as natural light makes even cell phone pics look decent.

looks like someone took a barebones GI45 and slapped some aftermarket bits on it. look on the underside of the dust cover, it probably says Made In Brazil IMBEL. my girlfriend has one in stainless steel, and paid $500 for it. it's a good shooter, and an excellent base for a project gun.

whoever did the work didn't do a great job. not a terrible job, but not a great one. the sights weren't really well done, in my opinion. but as long as it shoots well for you, who cares what i think? as far as resale value, i would say there really is none, or at least, you're not getting what you paid for it.

Yep, it's a Springfield Milspec. I bought one a couple months ago as a project gun (about $200). Sent it off to Novak for milling and sight installation. Replaced trigger group parts with Ed Brown parts and the Wilson drop in grip safety. Traded some unused waterfowl decoys for a Crimson Trace grip.

Now a have a crisp 5 pound trigger and a carry 1911. Very pleased with the results.

I'll shoot an IDPA match in early December to run it through and decide then if anything else needs to be worked on.
