I own a Springfield Armory "Loaded" model 1911A1, five-inch trim. I'm considering swapping its two-piece full-length guide rod for a standard length one. I know I'll need the new rod and plug, but what about the spring? I don't know what size/type/weight spring this pistol has, it's just what came with it, but I'm not sure that it's appropriate for a shorter guide rod.
For what it's worth, I'm considering this only to simplify takedown and reassembly, to not "have to have" that Allen wrench! I purchased this pistol very-gently-used and have put just over 700 rounds through it in the eight months I've owned it. No hitches, glitches, or stoppages, nor have I experienced any instances of the two-piece rod trying to unscrew itself. I check for this both when wiping the gun down periodically and at about each 100-round mark while at the range.
