On my new Springfield GI, I get a big triangle shaped dent at the case mouth and also a small gash about 3/4" down from the case mouth. It's about an 1/8' long.
I can live with the dent for reloading, but not the gash (actually, a deep scratch).
It appears to come in contact with a fairly sharp edge located on the rear of the ejection port, above the port's rear radius corner, but I am guessing. Also, there is a small shallow gouge where the extractor contacts the case.
I've read various threads that suggest judicious beveling of the extractor and ejector, but I'm hoping to pinpoint the problem first, before I attack it with my files , sandpaper or Flitz.
I've worked on my very old Marlin lever guns and S&W and Colt revolvers successfully, so this is new territory for me. Any suggestions?
