I saw a Springfield GI for sale chambered in 9mm. I'm interested in a 1911 in 9mm. This model is a full size with a parkerized finish.
I don't see the 9mm option on Springfield's website. Is this an older gun? I didn't think to asked the guy how old it is. I didn't know springfield made the GI in 9mm. It even says Springfield Armory 9mm on the slide.

Yes, they only make a stainless target model in 9mm now.

If it is in good condition, you may want it.

I ordered a 9mm from their custom shop, because I wanted a nice 9mm 1911. I had never shot a 9mm 1911 before. It's nice because of the low recoil with the heavier weight of a 1911

they are junk , for the money by a brand new STI 9mm spartan with target sights

Get the Springer, although I'm not too partial to the GI sights. I have 2 1911s in 9mm, an old Colt Mark IV Series 70, it's sights got changed somewhere down the line. it shoots OK, but really needs an upgrade on the trigger. The other 9mm 1911 is an STI Trojan, it is an incredible pistol, heads and shoulders above anthing in it's price range around $1000. Get the SA, my first 1911 was a SA Longslide, great pistol, They ain't JUNK. The STI Spartan is a decent entry level pistol for around $600. I went with the Trojan mainly of the ramped barrel vs a ramped frame, and a forged frame is better than a cast any time. On a budget you can get STI performance from a $600 pistol.

read my experience with SA mil spec guns in the handgun discusions area. Basically don't buy any low level entry gun before you can try it and shoot it at least at 25 yrds. before you pay for it.

SA will not even guarantee the gun to shoot point of aim at 25 yrds. They will blame any accuracy errors on your ammunition you are using. The factory doesn't seem to care about the sight alignment

Basically there are assembled in brazil and only test fired for functioning and not sighting in.

If you try and return the gun SA will charge you for shipping and ammunition to test and fire your gun, with shipping and ammo thats about $85, and you will probably get back the gun in the same condition.

You should get better out of the box accuarcy from a new GI pistol. I puchased used police wather p38, sig, fn brownings that were as ugly as hell and still would shoot point of aim at 20-25 yrds. But these mil spec springers can't even hit a 18"x18" box at 25 yrds.

Springfield did make 1911s in 9mm.

Mine had a designation of PX9130L. As a Loaded model, it came with adjustable rear sights, etc. Nice gun, reliable, accurate. No complaints.

I don't have the model nomenclature for the GI model, but here's a thread that might help: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15653986

I guess the GIs (45acp) were hit or miss, because I've had 2 and they always shot to point of aim, even qualified with one of them! I do not shooot thousands of rounds in a month, or even in a year, but mine have run flawlessly, not that I was paying that much attention...

As always, YMMV
