In 1994 I bought a SA Mil Spec and was very happy. In 2004 I sent it off to Ted Yost for a package. I love this gun. However, it and my Colt both have slanted slide serations and opened ejection ports. I needed a "traditional" look. On January 2nd, I bought a Springfield Armory GI to start 2005.

As with my Mil Spec, the GI had a great frame to slide fit. The ejector was pinned. The action smooth. I think the newer pistol has more MIM parts, but that's OK.

At the same time I put a small parts order together including:

Ed Brown bushing
Ed Brown slide stop
Ed Brown firing pin and firing pin stop
Ed Brown extractor
EMC wide spure hammer with Ed Brown strut
Wilsons sear spring
Wolff recoil, main, and firing pin spring
VZ canvas grips
MSH from my pre-ILS Mil Spec
Videki style medium trigger

The sear and disconnector look good. None of the rough spots or misalignment I have heard from others. They will stay for a while.

I had a bear of a time fitting the grip safety and trigger. Bow kept dragging on grip safety. A little fileing and polishing have corrected this, but it was not fun.

Still waiting for thin grip screws. The VZ grips are a skosh thinner then stock. I really like the feel of them.

Range report to follow.

Here's a photo of the pistol and one of the EMC wide spur hammer.
