About three weeks ago, I bought a brand new SA Loaded Champion light weight model. It sure is a pretty gun being OD green with the Armory Kote on the slide and all the small parts. I'm kind of disappointed with its performance. Accuracy is poor compared to my Kimber Tactical Pro and the trigger is terrible. I've e-mailed Springfield Armory to see what they'll do.

Has anyone had issues like this resolved by Springfield Armory or are they going to tell me to send it to their custom shop for a trigger job? I'd be happy with the 5.5lb trigger pull they advertise, but mine feels to be more around 7.5 and rather gritty. My other question, does anyone know if I could still buy a SA mainspring housing without the ILS? I'm tempted to grab on of the Kimber units from Midway that has the magwell too.

they'll fix it for free. trust me.

call them tomorrow and have them send you a shipping label, and send it back with a letter with what you expect.

they hand fit a new slide/barrel to my emp40 at my request. the originals had bad machining. free under warranty.

;)

Just a quick update:

I spoke to CS at Springfield today and the gun is going back. Kinda sucks though because they said it could take an extra 2 weeks due to the accuracy complaint. I just hope the end result is worth being without it for 4-6 weeks.

yeah they only get out to range with guns on certain days of the month, so it'll add on some turnaround time.

it only added a week at the most for mine. if i remember the total time was maybe 3 weeks for mine. not bad for hand fitting a new barrel/slide.

it'll come back fixed, you'll see ;)

I really hope so. I realize both of my complaints are subjective as the gun has run flawlessly from the first round barring the trigger and accuracy. But for what it cost, I expect a lot more.

Ive sent a gun back to them due to what I thought was subpar accuracy. I got it back with a new barrel and front sight in about two weeks. You could also try replacing the sear spring with one from cylinder and slide. Springfield typically puts a stiffer sear spring in thier guns than I care for. I changed the sear spring and cut two coils off of the mainspring of my Springfield Custom Shop and dropped the trigger pull from 4.5 lbs to 3.0 lbs.

I like this one. Also on thier production guns the sear itself may not be properly cut.

SA Customer Service is top notch and they should get you taken care of.

Well FedEx came today, but unfortunately I'm 900 miles away. They've only had it for a week, so I'm curious what was done. Hopefully I can get the other half to hang around tomorrow to sign for it and I can get a look at it on Monday. Did they include a summary of the work performed?

I landed an hour ago and couldn't wait to get home to see the reworking on the pistol. I'm amazed. They replaced the barrel and front sight, and "adjusted" the trigger pull. I'm going to strip it tomorrow, but it feels like every machine mark was polished out and the trigger is clean, crisp, and I'd guesstimate its a touch under 4lbs. I'm thrilled. I couldn't get better than 6" @ 25yrds with it before but the test target they returned is about 3.5". They did all this within two weeks including shipping.

Unfortunately due to my shoulder being in bits, it's probably going to be a few weeks before I can put it through its paces. If it shoots as well as I expect, Springfield Armory has made me a lifelong customer.
