I've heard there are a huge number of M1 garands available to the public and they aren't expensive.

Does anyone know of how to get a hold of one of these? I've heard of the civilian marksmenship program, but I don't really want to join a 'sponsored group' just to get a rifle.

Thanks.

Good thing, as CMP is currently are out of stock.
I don't know where you "heard" about all these Garands floating around for cheap, but next time someone tells you that, ask that person where they are.
There are Garands around, but now that CMP is currently re-evaluating their stock, I would suggest that prices will be in the $700-$1,000 range.

just called him, he said he got his through the CMP a few years ago...
"it's just what I've heard, also heard there's places to get cheap ammo"

I asked him to find out where next time he sees the fella that told him. Hopefully we'll trace this back and it won't be BS, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I had my hopes up too.

The CMP ran out of M1's yesterday or the day before. They may have some later this year, but I wouldn't expect it to be like the hayday ever again.
