Does anyone know anything about the Springfield M6 Scout Survival Rifle. I bought one tonight at a local gun store. It's chambered in 22 magnum and 410.

It's obviously been used/carried. No box. No papers. I saw it hanging on the wall and it just piqued my curiousity.

What are these worth?

If I get this painted or coated will it hurt the value or increas the value?

Any info would be helpful.

I'll try my hand with the digital pictures this weekend. Other than that, just google it to see an image.

They stopped making these again, so to paint it will probably hurt the value in the end, but it is your rifle to do with what you want. What finish does it have? An original military issue M6 would cost an arm and a leg but there been many commercial versions made and Springfield Armorys contracted plenty of these out to CZ and slapped their name on the side.

I have owned a couple of them at one time, one in long rifle/.410 and one in Magnum/.410
Stick with Winchester shotshells and rimfire cartridges for best results, plus they won't become hopelessly stuck in the storage box recesses.

I have never seen one in 22mag so it might be a bit more rare than the lr and hornet models. I had one of the hornets. Carried it with me while I lived in Co up in the mountains. It was a fun little gun to shoot. I traded mine away when I left Colorado. If you are going to mount optics on it try and get the one springfield offered for it. I had both a 4x and a red dot on mine at different times and had trouble keeping them zero'd. I bought it new in 2000 for 199.00 and traded it for about 250.00 in 2006. I have seen them go on gun broker for 175 to 400.

The finish is parkerized.

I went to Wally World and bought some 22 magnum, 410 #7 1/2 shot, & 410 slugs.

I shot it at 25 yds at first. The 22 magnum was surprisingly accurate. The peep sight is a tad too small but it did the job.

Then I shot some 410 7 1/2 shot and 410 slugs. I was shocked by how much recoil I felt with the 410. I wasn't expecting that much.
The 7 1/2 shot printed on the paper in a pretty tight pattern. The 410 slugs were decent as well.

All in all, it was alot of fun to shoot. There were 2 other people at the range and they both came over to see what kind of gun it was. Neither one of them had ever heard about the Springfield M6 Scout Rifle.
