Local dealer has a NIB mil-spec 1911 for $490.00. Seems like a good price. Checked on Gunbroker, couldn't find a new one any cheaper. Had a bunch of .45's, but never a Springer.

A good price?

My local ACE hardware has the G.I. version for just a little less than that, so I'd say go for it.

thats a good price out here the cheapest i seen one was 560 bucks out here for a packerdized one, Id jump on it

I've got an older Springfield Mil spec. A pretty good .45 auto-pistol. Mine came with two Springfield mags and they were not very good. Got the gun pre-owned so maybe the mags had some abuse. But no matter, replaced the mags with some Chip McCormic 8 shots and no more problems.

ACE hardware sells guns??

repo, they do here in my part of WA state. I was just as surprised as you. They even carry some milsurp.

About 4 or 5 years back, I bought my parkerized Springfield Mil-Spec (not GI45) for $499. Last week, I saw a parkerized Mil-Spec NIB priced at $663.

On today's market, if the gun you are looking at is indeed a Mil-Spec, and not a GI45, then any price under $500 is attractive indeed!

That's a really good price in my book. Seems like they're closer to $600 these days. It's a really good gun too.

Yep, $490 is a good price for a SA GI. I'd jump on it. It's not the nicest 1911 you'll ever shoot, but it's the nicest sub-$500 1911 you'll ever shoot.

Sounds real good to me. The only one I have seen locally is $599 and I checked another LGS and they said that they could get me one for $569. I've got a Loaded 1911 but was thinking about picking one of these up, also.

I have a mil-spec and I am very happy with it. That sounds like a good price. They are usually close to $600. I see the mil-spec and GI are confused by some dealers. The Milspec has a lowered ejection port, stainless barrel, better sights and some other small upgrades I think.

Pretty good buy on the Mil-Spec.

"GI-45" is a bit less expensive, and 'repo' has covered the differences well. The sights are tiny on the GI-45, but I actually shoot it better than my 4" Champion model with the Novak night-sights.

The ACE Hardware in Loveland and the one in Eaton sell guns as well. The one in Loveland isn't bad, but I just don't like the guy at the one in Eaton.

I think I have made a mistake. Someone mentioned the small GI sights and I realized the gun I am looking at is most likely a GI version, not a Mil-spec.

My apologies. So $490.00 would be a great price for Mil-spec.

GI vs. Milspec

I am seeing this mistake alot. The Milspec at $490 is a REAL DEAL! The GI at $490 is probably about average now - I used to see them at Gun SHows for about $400 - but that was before the latest price increase on all guns.

The sights on the Milspec are the one key that makes them more desirable, although the GI is a nice looking gun with a more traditional look.

SA is TOPS in courteous CS.

$490 seems to be about average to high on a GI45 at most places.

Schmeky, if this is at TP, the price is a bit high, but tolerable if you want a decent 1911 right now. Get the five incher if you buy. Tell Greg you want a deal. Ask for three months free range usage, money off on ammo, or just a price cut.

If you wait until the next gun show, you will find the same gun for $435 at Hutch's table. After New Year's, TP will drop all their prices by about 20%.

Xavier,

Thanx for the input. You know your way around here, no doubt. I have been shooting at their indoor range more and more frequently.

I think I'll hold off, don't really need it, but that's no reason not to buy.

Confusing the Springfield models is common. I've seen them advertised wrong too.

When I traded for my Mil spec, took me a bit of research to figure out it was a Milspec model. Lot od dealers list the GI models as Mil spec models for some reason. Don't know why Springfield doesn't stamp the model on the guns like they do some types.

Z71,

I appreciate that, I feel bad about asking a misleading question like I did. Either the dealer should mark them conspiciously, or as you said, have them marked better on the gun.

Then again, I should pay more attention in the future as well.

I have noticed this too. It drives me crazy.

Same here... I called around looking for a GI model. My local gunshop said they "Had no "GI's" but they had a Mil-spec". I decided that was close enough and the price seemed REAL good. I got there and when they guy brought the gun out front... it turned out to be a GI. When I pointed out the little mix up to the guy behind the counter... he pointed out that the sticker on the box said "MIL-SPEC/GI".

I'm assuming they use the same sticker on the boxes for both models... causing some confusion.
