Hi
I m looking to get a Springfield mil spec for a range/HD gun I would like to get a used one to keep the cost down
How much would you pay for a used SA mil spec are they any good will they hold up to years of use
Thanks

A Springfield Mil Spec should outlast you with proper maintenance. I would think a decent used one could be found around $450 or so if parkerized. Stainless would probably be a tad more.

I have recently (last 4 months) purchased two used SA Mil-specs. One for $350 (needed refinishing) and one for $400 (great condition). Both have been smooth and reliable (about 300 rounds each).

I would expect both to last quite a while. Just replace the recoil spring if you buy a used one.

I've seen them for as low as $400 new in the box. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I noticed that they are made in Brazil. Don't know if that's all the mil-specs or just some of them...

And Springer stands behind it forever!!!
I have a used done that has been sent back twice. Fixed and returned without a whimper, or a bill.
$400 sounds about right but shop around.

As a reference, I paid $399 for mine 4 years ago. I've put a BUNCH of rounds thru and it's never even hick-up'd on me. :D

If $450 is the cheapest you can find - for $50 more, you could get a brand new parkerized Mil-Spec - there's one for $499 at my local shop now.

Also, for the same price you might consider the Rock Island Arms Tactical Version (has much better sights and ambi safety)...sorry for mentioning it if you've already considered the RIA...just a thought.

Just don't do what I did - I made up my mind and went to buy the SA Mil-Spec...took a peek at the Kimber Custom II ("just to see how a Kimber feels")...and never put it back down...ahh c'mon, it was only $150 more and I would have spent at least that putting new sights on the SA (if you haven't seen the sights on the Mil-Spec, do so before buying - they are pretty poor)...gunshop reasoning is a scary thing!

i paid 500 for mine brand new put a hogue grip on it and left it alone its a great reliable gun never had a problem with it

I have not found a new price that low for the Mil-spec in some time, GI yes but thats a different animal.

Used I'd be happy $425-500 in good shape..........

2 years ago I picked up a used loaded for $500, thought is was a great deal, runs great............

what’s the GI like I now the mil spec is a step up from it but it will be more for plinking/range then HD I have a S&W 66 for that. how much will I save by going with a GI in stainless steel I like stainless steel but it costs more if the GI is a lot lass then the mil spec in blue then I could get it in SS. I don't like the loaded that’s why im looking at mil spec gun with out the beavertail grip safety it just dose don’t feel right in my hand

The biggest difference maker for me in the GI and Mil-Spec is the sights. There are a few other differences I am too lazy to look up on Springfield's site, but I hate the sights on the GI. The 3-dots on the Mil are much, much better, IMHO.

I picked mine up about 3.5 years ago used in near perfect condition for $375. Great pistol and at that price I wasn't afraid to try some home gun smithing on it. It is one of my favorite .45's

As far as how they hold up...my SA Trophy Match is 20 yrs old with a gazillion rounds through it and it still shoots like new. Doesn't look new but shoots like it. Since its stainless I could buff it up and get it looking new in no time. Any of the SA guns you buy, used or new, will be enjoyed by your grandchildren if you don't let them get rusty.

SA Mil-Spec factory nickled .38 Super

I've only owned one SA Mil-Spec, this .38 Super one. These were sold from the factory with imitation pearl grips. I think this version has been discontinued.

These sold for more than the prices I've seen quoted for the park'd and stainless ones. They are great guns and the three dot sights make accurate shooting easy.

not for everyone, but I kinda like shiny Super .38's...

Wow them gun are sweet im turning green I love shiny guns.
How much did those cost you?
Im going to get one of the two in ss and put black rubber grips on it
this happens ever time I say $400 no more then I end up paying 600 for this one because it was ss and has better grips:)
