I bought a Springfield P9 today. It has a little holsterwear and could use a little cleaning, but I'm really happy with my purchase. Cost me $400. The only thing I'm not to thrilled about is the fixed sights, and am contemplating buying new target style or night sights. Does anyone have some brand suggestions? I've never installed sights before, is it something a novice can do, or do I need to take it to my gunsmith?

Congratulations on the P9. I've been looking for one for a year or so, at a good price.

I understand that the P9 is the same pistol as the Tanfoglio EAA Witness, the older "small frame" model. You can get a newer Witness for the same money.

I can't help you with your sight question. Good luck.

The P9 is the same as the small frame Witness made by Tanfoglio. It will use any sight/slide/part meant for small-frame Tanfoglios. A word of warning, though: the current 9mm Witnesses are all built on the large-frame Tanfoglio. However, the sights are the same.

The P9's are nicely finished and better assembled than standard 9mm Witnesses. They are akin to the Witness Match series, in my opinion (except they are double action whereas the Witness Match is single action only).

Great guns! You will enjoy it. I have a 40 ipsc ultra and a 9mm. You can get sights from LPA that slide right in or buy from EAA. Both fit and work fine.

I've recently taken a liking to these as well. I have the standard combat sights also and it's no problem. I'd rather get used to those and be able to adjust my aim and shoot well with those than fool with a new set of adjustable sights... and I will. :)

It's really a service weapon, so it wasn't designed with target shooting in mind, but it does seem quite accurate. Springfield seems to offer some good value, there anyway. I also have a .45 ACP Witness and it's a powerful companion as well. Both are CZ clones, one a bit larger than the other but operationally and even as far as clips and grips appear to be the same AFAICT.
