Springfield/Stevens 87m

Hi All-
While browsing gunbroker, I came across this rifle:

Does anyone have one of these? How's the function/reliability/accuracy? What about specifications like OAL, weight? Does it replicate the feel of an M1at all?

I just thought it'd be darn cool to have a rifle that feels like my M1 that I can take to the range and fire more often and less expensively than my M1.

Wow,I never saw one of those before.But my first rifle was a Stevens 87A,and it looks just like that,except for the sights.Not even remotely Garand-like in heft or feel.

I also have a model 87A. These rifles are generally very accurate and reliable.

Springfield 87M

I have both an 87A and 87M which share the same semi-auto action design. The "M" version should have full Garand type wood, ears on the front sight, a sheet metal rear peep sight and sling swivels. A serial number will be found stamped on the inside of the steel butt plate as well as in the wood on the bottom of the butt stock. All serial numbers I have encountered have been less than 300. There seems to be very little info available as per years of manufacture or quantity. Original rifles in excellent condition are said to be worth $500-$600 but I have yet to know of anyone paying that much. Mine is in excellent condition and I would not take $600 because finding another in that condition may be next to impossible. BTW, I have yet to see proof that they were ever intended for or used as a military trainer. The bottom line on these M-1 look-alikes is they are fairly scarce and look cool plus they are cheap to shoot.
