I'd like to get the Springfield PX9151L but my source is backordered on these. Now I'm considering a comparable Kimber preferably without the front cocking serrations. How do the Kimbers compare to SA's?

My personal taste would lead me to a Colt!Have you considered a XSE it has novak type sights and all the same feature's of the springfield loaded! But you get the added knowledge of buy a real colt 1911 not just a copy!

A PX9109L is my every day carry gun and I love it, zero problems in over a year with 1000+ rounds through it. I've fired friends Kimber's and they had zero problems as well so I would say they are comparable. I didn't see the need to spend 150-200 more for what seemed to be a nearly identical gun in my eyes, and haven't been disappointed in the least with my Springfield. I will eventually get a Kimber to go along with it.

Given your limited choices...I would go with a Kimber. 2 reasons...(1)made in America. (2) I have owned 3 SA's and have sold all three of them to finance purchasing Colt 1911's. This is purely subjective, but I am not impressed by SA's quality.

I like Springfields. Have 1 and prev had 1. I looked at this gun (the Springfield black stainless) because I thought about getting one. I didn't like it too much, however.

The finish is cool. But, the safety is not an extended safety (it's very short), and the sights suck, IMHO. It has novak sights, but they seem very cheap. The dots are crappy, and they just seem like cheap sights.

I want a stainless springfield too, but I wanna find one with better sights at a fair price.

I own both, and would purchase either again. That being said, I would reach for my Kimber first in a pinch. A little bit better in the fit and finish in my opinion. Also the Kimber has been utterly reliable and accurate.

I have the Springer Black Stainless PX9152L that I bought two weeks ago and really like it. It has been flawless through about 650 rounds. I shot a friend's new Kimber Raptor II the other day. The trigger was better than my Springer (which turned out to be 9#) but he had a FTF that he couldn't clear in the first 100 rounds. He had to take it to a gunsmith.

I now have my Springer in for a trigger job that I had planned in any case. That should address my trigger concerns. I can't wait to get it back. :(

I don't think Kimber sells any guns without the front cocking serrations. But, from what I've heard the Kimber Custom is a little tighter but performs comparably to the Springfield Loaded and the Gold Match is comparable to the TRP. There are people on both sides who will swear that their gun is superior because of X, Y, and Z, but it seems to me that it's really just a Ford vs. Chevy debate and the most important thing differentiating the two is which one feels better to you.
If you want a more traditional 1911, Springfields all use internal extractors while Kimber is switching over to external extractors. Lots of people complain about the external extractors, but I don't know that I've heard of anyone actually having a functional problem with one.

Thanks to all that replied. I've decided to take the plunge and get an Ed Brown Kobra carry instead.

If you wanted to hold off on the Ed Brown, we have the exact SA you're looking for in stock.

I'm sure Tamara would be more than happy to take your order for it.

Goodness Gracious!! What a plunge! I wish I could follow you......Hey , lets see if somebody posts about how a POS the Brown is and you should really get ....Brand X !!

Yeah, I decided to get the one I really want. Besides, it's a graduation present to myself. ;)

From what I've read/heard, as long as you don't look at your bank/credit card statement, I don't see how one could be unhappy with an Ed Brown. :)

Really not much difference in both...get whichever one will make you happier or can find the better deal on.

I had 3 Kimbers and all were OK,...... I'd still go for the SA

or save up for a Wilson or Nighthawk :)

I also carry a PX9109L, and it had been flawless (after dumping the factory mags and replacing them with Wilson's) until recently when it developed an extractor-tension related ejection problem. Went many thousands of rounds without a hitch and then a relatively small-ish problem.

I love it. A very sweet gun. Kimber's are great too, but I think overpriced when you look at what you get from SA.

I have owned several Kimbers, and sold all of them.

My carry gun is a Springfield "LOADED". It has performed FLAWLESSLY! I can't say the same of the Kimbers I have owned, and sold.

I love my Colts, and have quite a few in my safe...but that darned Springer has just impressed me to no end.

I can't wait to get the new Springfield sub-compact in .45GAP. I bet it will be a hoot!
