I have the option to purchase either of these two. The kimber is very slightly used and priced at $725.00 The springfield is new and priced at $785. I always wanted to get a 1911 in stainless, but I think the kimber would look nice with ivory grips..I also prefer not to have the ambi safety, but it could always be removed from the springfield. And the front serrations are alot uglier on the springfield..

Which would you pick and why? Both guns depicted are exactly how they look at the store..

I have the Kimber TLE/RL II. It is my favorite pistol I own or have owned by far. Mine is the same but with a rail. I was faced with the same decision between Sprinfield an Kimber shot both and liked the Kimber better. Shoot both(if possible) then decide. That said I highly reccommend the Kimber.

The Springfield you show is the 9mm, was that intended, or were you looking at one of the Springfield loaded models in .45? If it was intended, I'd just decide which I wanted to shoot more, 9mm or .45.

I have a Kimber Custom Target II and it has yet to hickup at all. However, that price is more than I paid for mine, and it was new with adjustable sights.

I say get the Kimber, but shop around because I think you can beat that price.

I perfer Kimber.

I also prefer the ambi safety.
And SS is WORTH the $.

Even with having to replace the mainspring housing on the Springfield with one without the lock... I'd go Springfield.

You couldn't go wrong with either. Do you have the money for both of them? :D There are those who think Kimbers are the best, and more power to them, but I have both and honestly don't understand why the Springfield isn't just as good of a pistol as the Kimber.
The ambi safety on the Springfield was actually a good thing for me, as I am a lefty.
All that said? Flip a coin. ;)

Flip a coin. They're both about the same.

I have more than one of each and they are fabulous guns. I carry my Kimber more than my Springfield, but that's due to nothing but the Kimber being a little more tuned.

The cons for both are:

Mainspring housing will have to be replaced on both.

Lock work will have to be replaced on both.

Safety and beavertail will have to be replaced on both.

Once you've shed all the plastic and MIM you should have a pistol that will last for generations. An heirloom if you will.

What are you going to use it for? I ask, because for carry I prefer as care-free finish as I can get & the SS of the Springfield might tip the scale that way.

All things being equal - well, I have a 3" Ultra CDP & a 5" SS Custom, both Series I.

Springfield. Unless of course you enjoy clearing jams and sending guns back and forth through the mail. :neener:

I picked the kimber. I love mine and its so been absolutely flawless. I've put it through some heavy fire with cheap mags and old ammunition and it shoots wonderfully and accurately. its a tame beast as I assume most 1911's are. Today I had mine fire upside down. yes silly. yes potentially irresponsible. I did it in a controlled manner though with no one around and it worked flawless. I even dropped my mag (on purpose) into the snow, racked my slide back and put it in the snow, shoveled some ice in and quickly inserted the mag and shot away. my god I love that gun. I want to do a full torture test to it but I just feel so guilty

What the heck is that skinny tube thing with te bullet-looking end in the pic?

Well, I am not sure which I would jump on, but I can tell you this...

Sportsmans Warehouse has that IDENTICAL Custom II for 699.00 here in the Dallas area.

If you call Becky at www.sportingarms.com and tell her Steve sent you to get a Series I Kimber Custom, she will take VERY good care of you. Yes, she still has NIB Series I Kimbers (I got 2 from her) and they look like this:

I paid $700.00 for mine.
