Does anyone know of a light or light mount for the Springfield XD Sub-compact other than the Insight X2? The small rail is rather limiting. I don't really like the insight and would prefer a light mount that would let me use a standard LED flashlight.

Also, any lasers or laser combos you know that would fit would be good too. Thanks.

XD Sub compact light solution

Hello,
I just went through the same search. I have been a flashlight nerd for the past few years since I got my first ARC keychain light. Anyway I figured there had to be something brighter than the X2 which is said to be around 40 Lumens. There are pleanty of regular small pocket lights out there that are well over 100 lumens and a few over 200. Some will debate the combat strength of all but the SureFire lights but for me, in a home defense application, it wont need to stand up to 300+ rounds. It just needed to be secure, bright, and sturdy enough for a home defense encounter.

And I found it. The RLS by SafariLand. WAIT! before everyone says it wont work on a 3" XD-SC, here is what you have to know. I called to find out if this would fit. One source said yes, another said no. Then I found it on Cabelas website in the "bargain cave" for $69 and figured id try it. The key to making it fit is to reverse the mounting device on the rail the turn the LED flashlight back around pointing forward. The RLS locks on the rail when you flip the light up to the lift or right. The flip slides a tab into the cross key on the front of the rail and its locked on. ***I did have to do a slight modify on the mount to get it to slide far enough on the rail to lock in. Prob filed off 1/16th of the leading edge of the RLS mount*** Anyway, the mount does stick out probably 1 inche however the light can be adjusted back in the mount so it is more flush with the barrel. Once its all mounted the light can be activated both momentary or continuous with the thumb of the trigger hand or the support hand thumb. This baby is BRIGHT at 65 lumens (ssems like more after i put Lithium batteries in it) and the mount will hold any 1 inch diameter light that isnt too long. The one it comes with is about 4.25 inches long. It does make the overall profile much bigger but its fine for in home low light or dark room clearing. It flips down and pops of for CCW or range trips.

Hope this helps. I'm sure when something else brighter and smaller comes out we'll all have to get that too.

The SureFire X400 is probably the highest quality weapons light you'd find with a laser combo. You'll pay almost as much for it as you did for the XD. There is a Sig light/laser combo that you might be able to find for $100-$150. They won't be much smaller, but better quality than the X2.

P.S. [WARNING!! OFFENSIVE STATEMENTS TO FOLLOW!!]
I don't think it is a good idea to buy a HD weapon, trick it out cheaply and then never fire it because you don't want to damage the cheap accessories you added to it. I'd suggest a light that is durable enough to endure the practice you should be putting all your tools through.

CoRoMo,
I looked up the Surefire X400 to see if I missed this one in my search. It looks like it is not made to fit the Sub Compact rail.

Regarding the RLS, it is actully a very solid unit. I think Safariland is a reputable retailer/manufacturer of a lot of police use gear. Its an LED light so no bulb failure risk and the mount is very firm. Its not a "trick out" light per se' but not as form fitting at the much dimmer Insight X2(L)

If folks really wanted to the, RLS mount is sold seperatly and one could add any 1 inch light...even a (gold plated) surefire.
