Springfield XDM Elite 3.8 10MM range update

Figured I’d update ya all on the Elite 10MM progress to date.

I settled on removing the Hex red dot as iI seem to be more accurate with the factory iron sights. Will most likely throw it back on later now that I have the right reloads and factory ammo selected.

For self defense ammo I’ve selected Underwood 165 gr Speer GD JHP rated at 1400 fps and 718 fps. Will check the actual fps from the 3.8” barrel when the weather allows for an outdoor trip with chronograph.

Here’s todays grouping at 15 yards indoors with the Underwood ammo.



As for self defense reloads, I’m using the same 165 gr Speer Gold Dot JHP bullet over AA9. Groups a bit better than the Underwood with just a little less recoil. I’ll also run that thru a chronograph.

For range ammo, 165 gr XTreme FMJ plated over Longshot. It’s a good load for range use.

Lastly, this gun shoots my 180 gr XTP barn burners over 800X that I use in my G20 and Hi-Point carbine rather well but the recoil is pretty snappy in the smaller pistol.

I really love this pistol much more than I did the full size XDM I had in 10MM a couple of years ago.

Now if I can get my hands on the S&W M&P 2.0 with the 4.6” barrel….

Seems like the supply of M&P10s is getting better. I got my 4.6 w/safety about a month ago, only have 100 through it but it shot well. I hate the tall sights, so I took them off.

I'm awaiting for the SIG X-Ten myself, since I'm a fan of the P320.

I've been reading good thing about the 3.8 compact. I like the 165 gr over the 155 for 10's. I use the 155's for the 40s&w. Not much of a heavy (180 and up) bullet weight shooter in pistols of the 40cal.
