Spyderco Delica 4

Well, after waiting way (waaaaaay) too long, I replaced a pocketknife I've had since I was around eight years old as my EDC. I picked up a Delica 4 FRN, and man... I simply could not possibly be more pleased with it. I'm not going to take the time to right a lengthy review here, because there are plenty available, and frankly I probably wouldn't do this knife justice.

Just wanted to say, if anyone is on the fence about this knife, or any "first" Spyderco, go for it; I'm certain you won't be disappointed. I didn't like the Spyderco thumb-hole when I tried it in a store a short while back, but it grew on me really quickly. This is my first Spyderco, but they just made a new fan. I literally didn't even know a knife could be so sharp. It certainly won't be my last knife by them. Wish I hadn't waited so long to give Spyderco a chance.

I've got a couple of Delica's myself and love them. IMO they are just about the perfect EDC folder for me.

next get the endura4 and a Manix2 and youll be in spyderco nirvana, haha...also get the sharpmaker w/ the extra fine stones...then you'll know what SHARP is

I hate thumb studs, so Spyderco was a natural for me. You'll start looking around seeing how others have either licensed it or changed it.

I truly believe that Spyderco perfected sharpness, their beveling is just right. It keeps it sharper longer, and maxes the steels ability. I agree with everything pikid89 just said, get the sharpmaker.

Also, what knife did you have that you retired before getting the Delica if you don't mind?

It's the knife pictured in this post of the "What's your EDC knife?" thread. I don't even know what it is. All the markings on the knife are shown clearly in the picture.

I've had it since around eight years old, and it has spent untold months lost in the woods of the Pacific Northwest during rain, sleet, and snow, but it's always managed to come back to me, and it's never so much as begun to show signs of coming apart. I'm retiring it for sentimental reasons mostly, but the steel is very hard to sharpen, and I've never been able to get it to where I wanted. Replacing it was a long time coming.

The Byrd Meadowlark2 is the same basic knife for about $17.It made in China and it has 8Cr13Mov steel in the blade.
I've got about ten different models.One of my favorite edc knives.

When I first started on nice knives about nine years ago, I didn't like Spyderco's style... about a dozen of them later, they are hands-down my favorite knife company. I have had the same waved Delica 4 in my pocket for five years... it's been back to the factory to be resharpened and have the clip replaced, but other than that, always on me.

They do have the most consistently fine factory edge of any company I've seen. Only Kershaw comes close... I've had Benchmades arrive dull (though admittedly only twice).
