Stupid Question Of The Week:

Could I use my Lee .45 ACP dies to load .45 GAP or would I need a separate die set?

It's a stupid question because I don't own a .45 GAP pistol, I'm just curious.

Yes. In fact the same dies are sold as 45 ACP or 45 GAP.

Like the 38Special/357Mag, it's just a die height/lockring difference when mounted in the press.

Older .45 ACP dies may not. Since they were made before .45 GAP was invented, there would be no reason to have the crimp ledge where it would work. I do not think mine would work. Size? No problem. Flare? Probably enough adjustment. Crimp? May not work. The crimp ledge may be too far up in the die body.

New sets are marked .45 ACP/.45 GAP, but I have not seen a set.

I just bought a new (replacement) tungsten/carbide die set a few months back which was so marked, hence my answer.
Your point is a good one though, along with the fact that IIRC the older dies didn't have the same crimping profile.

I will take as look at the old (1968 vintage) set when I get home tonight.
