I do hope this new Ruger is without the rollmarked safety manual on the side though.
It looks like they put it on the front right of the frame instead...

What I like most is the rounded slide. I like my G19 for what it is, but the most irritating thing for me is the squarish slide. For me, the rounded slide is not only more comfortable to carry, but is easier to conceal. You wouldn't think it makes a difference, but it does (especially IWB using a belly band). The only negative thing about this pistol so far is the magazine disconnect.

The extended warning label is a part of the Ruger corporate culture. I doubt we will ever see a Ruger gun without it in our lifetimes.

Very nice looking. I like the fact it comes with adjustable sights and a thumb safety:) Magazine disconnects don't bother me one way or the other so that is not an issue. I wonder if the slide rides on metal rails or on the plastic of the frame itself? Anyone know? I think I'll have to have one of these when money allows.

yay, a new pistol thats just like what other people are making.

i guess i let all the hype get to me. i'm sure its great, it is a Ruger, but the internet photos just arnt doing it for me yet.

and why is 17 the magic number?

So...

Pros:
-17 rnd magazine capacity.
-Low bore axis.
-Slim.
-No lock.
-Fits Glock holsters.
-Backstrap mimics arched mainspring housing or flat mainspring housing.
-Manual safety.

Cons:
-Slide rails/locking block are removable and held by pins to a polymer frame. (sounds weak to me)
-Loaded chamber indicator looks literally like a tacked on afterthought.
-No option for magazine disconnect safety, it's there whether you like it or not.
-Unproven.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Im still not so certain on the lock deal. Look at the little hole right near the safety. Upon further thought after my guess earlier that it was behind the trigger, recent Ruger's internal locks have been on or near the manual safety. I'd bet that little hole just forward and low of the manual safety on the left side of the pistol is the internal lock system.

I can't see them making a gun that wouldn't be CA and MA compliant. They'll want as big a potential market as possible.

Re SR9

I love my Glock 17, but, good for Ruger, I hope the SR9 is a top notch firearm.

Don't get me wrong, I'll jump for joy if there isn't one, but I'd have to see in writing from them that there isn't one first. I think its a safe assumption that there is.

A store in my area (Huntsville, Alabama) is having a demo shoot this Saturday. Woo, woo. Unfortunately, I will be at a shooting match with my obsolete Colt.

About the CA/MA lock...If it's got one, is that it on the back of the slide, to the 5 o'clock of the large center hole of the cocking indicator? If it has one, that's the only place I've been able to see an unaccounted for "hole" while looking at the pistol on ruger's 360' viewer.......

It looks like the magazine disconnect can be removed. Here is a quote from the review on the Guns & Ammo website.

"My personal favorite feature of the SR9 is the fact its magazine disconnect safety can be user-deactivated. As with a majority of today's semiauto pistols, the SR9 comes from the factory unable to be fired with the magazine removed. However, unlike any other pistol of its type, the SR9's disconnect can be deactivated simply by plucking out the disconnect link while the gun is disassembled, enabling a chambered cartridge to be fired even if the magazine is inadvertently dropped or damaged. I believe this is an essential feature for ANY personal defense or duty sidearm."

I'm in for a 45 when it comes out. I've been waiting a long time for a Ruger with a frame safety. Considering all the other plusses like lower bore, higher cap, striker, etc. It will be a winner for me.

Looks sharp regardless of the warning label. The rounded slide I think makes it look more finished rather than the square block produced by all others.

I was thinking the same thing about the Kimber KPD. The Ruger has a nice feel IMO. I like the high bore axis - probably very similar recoil to the Kimber and the S&W M&P (not that most 9's don't have low recoil anyway), faster snap back to target, 17+1 on a slim magazine (niiiiice), and better grip texture IMO than alot of the other polymers, including my M&P (which isn't saying much ). It's definately not as ugly as a Sigma. Magazine disconnect, bad, although I know some LEO's that like that sort of thing. And although the safety is nice for some, it should be an option. Also, I would have like a non-ambi safety if I were getting one, with a little more landscape on it - it's kinda small for my fat thumb.
