Don't know if it a state law somewhere to have a mag disconnect(California?) but dont see a need for one. Makes me uneasy dryfiring with a mag.
It cannot get on the "safe" list in CA without a mag disconnect.

I bet the lawyers in CA would have a field day if someone take the mag disconnect off (since it would be defeating the stupid "safe list" law).

I handled one yesterday at Gander Mountain and really liked it a lot. I do think the Smith & Wesson M&P is more comfortable (at least in my hand). I really do like Ruger though and will probably sell one of my M&Ps and buy one of these once the price has settled down a little.

My Gander Mountain was asking $599 which, IIRC, is above MSRP by $50.

I was hoping they would get into the subcompact market, but this is not what I would call compact. I'm a big Ruger fan for life, but I'm not running out to get this one. Maybe if they build a nice tight pocket piece, I'll add another Ruger to my cabinet.

Ruger's website lists the SR9's MSRP as $525.

Gander is probably getting a special run of 24K gold plated SR9s from Ruger...

it severely pinched my palm between the safety and slide

Wes, this is a concern to me. I assume that you had the safety in the down position, but was it perchance "up". For that matter, it may not be possible to move the slide with the safety up but I just gotta ask.

rantingredneck, best wishes in a full recovery.

I got to look at one today at J&G

I'll be going in next week to pick one up when they actually hit the shelf. The clerk that showed it to me said it will probably sell for around $400. I would seriously have walked out with it today if they let me

I was sold the moment I picked it up. It feels like a "real" not a plastic toy, the grip is great, the trigger feels very nice, the ergonomics are wonderful and it feels like it will just scream of accuracy.

I can't wait! Even though its a 9mm I would still probably make it my new carry gun. Plus its made in Prescott, how could I not justify owning one.

Heh. I asked the guys at High Country Guns & Knives about it yesterday. They said they hadn't heard anything about it, they were sure it would have to come through Davidson's, and after they phoned Davidson's they said it was just a P95 modified to be striker fired anyway.

We have the new Ruger SR-9 in stock as I speak~! :uhoh:

Good look'in, good feel'in; but lousy, lousy trigger. Refine the trigger, and
they will have a winner with its slim design. The first production run even
comes in a special black hard case~! Oops, I forgot to check out the sale
price~ :banghead:  :(

Hopefully this doesn't mean they'll drop the P95. I think the P95 fills a real need, that of a reliable powerful hi cap defense auto under $350.

I'll have to stop in again and take another feel of the trigger, I didn't think it felt all that bad myself. Although I could have just been over-excited about everything else about the gun that I didn't really the trigger enough examination.

Still the trigger on my M&P was pretty lousy until I put a few hundred rounds through it, now I really like it.

Yeah I hardly ever even go in there anymore, the people that work there sometimes strike me as a little obtuse.

However I stopped in to see Bill at the Trading Post and he had never heard of it either, I'm sure I'll probably end up getting one through him anyway. It seems that whatever price J&G lists, Bill will beat it.

Judging solely on looks, that's a pretty nice looking, sleek pistol. It's got a lot of good angles. Personally, I don't think I'd care for the ergonomics of the safety and the trigger location (trigger is too low compared to where the grip would be). But compared to a Sig or a Beretta, it looks like it's the cat's meow.

i guess the days of exposed hammers and double action pistols is long gone huh? bummer.

Bobby

Quite a few recent or upcoming designs have them, at least optionally, there's the FNP series, the Beretta PX4, the P3000 and HK45, the Grand Power K100, the Baikal Viking and probably a few others.

Anyway this SR9 looks like it might be competitive but hardly a world beater.

I like it for what it is. I just don't like striker fired wepons. Personaly I like an external hamer and a manual safety. I think RUGER is on the rite track with the manual safety and I'm shure they will sell a ton of them. :)

Why am I not surprised? GM was selling Ruger Mk II magazines for $7 over Ruger's SRP when I was in looking for them a couple weeks ago. :barf:

I actually got to hold one today, its a sweet little gun they were selling it for 469.00. Felt great in my hands and it was nice and slim. they are gonna sell like hotcakes, I'll probably hold out till they make them in a .40 or a .45

Was on another forum someone pointed out at the end of Michael Banes post on the Downrange TV- Or Downrange Radio site. He said can't wait to see what the compact will be like so I'm thinking that will probably be next

Think that bad look on Gunbroker
One of them is $999

Saw and handled the SR9 today, at one of my usual toy stores.

Looked nice. I didn't take it down any. The safety, I thought, could stand to be bigger. I think it might be hard to manipulate in a crunch.

The rear sight is adjustable for height. I assume windage adjustment is done with a hammer and brass punch or a sight pusher.

They'd gotten 3. They had it priced at $499.
