I let a friend fire my SR9- I was observing- and this happened. He apparently pulled the trigger after the slide failed to go into battery, releasing the striker but it must have been blocked (thankfully). Probably, this is one of several 15+ year old factory rounds we loaded into the magazines, and it possibly jammed in the chamber. But the slide will not budge either direction more than a mm or so back. The live round appears to move back slightly with the extractor when I pull the slide back. I'm stumped: what do I do?

EDIT: UPDATE!! Fixed it! I just pressed the rear of the extractor and levered it off the casing, allowing the slide to go back. The bullet is really jammed in there. No more old ammo from ex-Soviet bloc countries for me! :)

I had to RAM the round out with a plastic dowel and a hammer (after penetrating oil), before dis-assembly. Here is what I found- hard ceramic (?) debris, apparently from the inside of the previous round, was wedged between the case and the chamber causing a nice crease in the brass and a strong jam. Fortunately, the chamber and barrel "appear" undamaged. Wow.
