Looking at a possible purchase of an SR9C. Have yet to test fire one, but I'm looking for information from SR9C owners on what they do and don't care for with their Ruger. Main use for this gun will probably be home protection. Thanks for any help or info offered.

Well if its gonna be mainly for home protection, why not the fullsized version?

I personally love my sr9c. Its light, compact, and very accurate. The trigger is very nice and crisp (for a polymer gun), and removing the magazine disconnect safety was a breeze. That is supposed to improve the trigger, although I can't comment on this cause I did it as soon as I got it.

They're great, affordable carry/defense pistols. Pretty hard to beat when it comes down to the price and quality.

Can a Sr9*.* do this NIB with a shooter on a range he has never been on. And complaining about his D,T and sustained fire patterns with a lowly Sigma 9mm and retail fodder for ammo.

What a low ball Sigma can do. :)

My bad, I thought he asked opinions about the SR9c, not show me your Sigma. Did I miss something? BTW, the SR9c shoots quite well IMO.

After handling and firing just about every compact to mid-size 9mm. out there, I finally settled on the Ruger SR9c. Having small hands tends to make my selection process a little more comparitive, but the Ruger fit my hand size the best. I like the ergos on the gun itself, especially having the thumb safety were it is, and the interchangeable backstrap insert. The sights come up very quickly on target and are easily aquired. The trigger pull is very good, comparable with my Glock Model 17.

If I would change one thing I would do away with the chamber indicator; just my personal preference. Overall I'm very pleased with my Ruger SR9c.

Mag disconnect does not change the trigger on the SR9 series. It is a good design in that regard. Lots of dry firing with the mag out can hurt the firing pin unless you remove the mag disconnect though.

Re: the loaded chamber indicator. I disliked it at first, then started thinking of it as a "good to go" indicator for CCW. It's all the way you think about it ;)

Still, if the main purpose is HD, and not CCW, I would say to look at the full size SR9. I don't think the grip is that much different, but you get a longer barrel and longer sight radius. I think I have seen the full size models selling for less also.

I Purchased the SR9 in April

I have a Glock 36 for my concealed Carry gun in a Wilderness Holster. I purchased the SR9B in April to get into the 9mm, since ammo is cheap, I also reload. The full size SR9 fits in the Wilderness holster for my Glock 36, I was really surprised that it would fit into my Glock concealed carry holster. The SR9 full size shoots great and now I can carry it also as my concealed carry gun. I have about 120 rounds through the SR9 and no malfunctions at all. My model was SR9B, the B on the end is for the black upper slide.
Anyway, just my 2cents worth for the full size SR9 which is not that large.
Marcus:)

I have an SR9 and it has become my favorit range gun. It just fits my hand perfectly, is totally reliable, accurate and not expensive.

SR9

I forgot to mention that I paid $405 for my SR9 model pistol. I changed the reversible backstrap to the smaller size and this pistol is starting to become my favorite pistol also. I am glad that I didn't buy the compact and that is what I went to the store to get was the SR9 compact and they were sold out so I bought the SR9B and now I am so glad that I did, especially with SR9 fitting in my Glock 36 concealed carry hoster.
For the money, this is by far the best pistol that I have bought and the most reliable so far, I would not be afraid to carry it as my concealed carry pistol, I purchased so hot Corbon 115 grain loads for self defense.
Anyway, Great gun,
Marcus:)

SR9

One other thing I forgot to mention is that I am left handed, so I have to be particular about the guns I buy. That is one of the reasons I became found of Glocks (models 21, 30 & 36), being left-handed. I even buy left handed Savage bolt action rifles and a left handed Stag AR-15 rifle.
The SR9 pistol is ambidextrous, another great feature of the gun.
Enough from me,
Marcus:)

Thanks for the info and advice. I wanted a compact 9mm for home defense so it could be hid anywhere, headboard, nightstand, etc. without taking up too much space. Test fired one last weekend and really liked it. Smooth trigger pull, came up to and stayed on target very well and with nominal recoil. Fit and finish was typical Ruger, clean with crisp lines. Slide got my left thumb right off the bat....beautiful....The other 9mm compact I'm looking at is the Stoeger Cougar. I like the internal design of that gun a lot. I've shot the 45ACP and that thing was a beast...powerful but recoil was all over that target...probably just me. Anyone have experience with the Cougar, let me know. Thanks again for all the responses.

If you want feed back on the Cougar you would probably get more if you start another thread or you could just use the search feature. There are several folks that frequent this site that are proponents of the Cougar.
