Hey everyone, just got me a super redhawk 44 mag. 7.5" barrel. I don't reload, yet. Factory 44 spl. is very expensive, but also hard to come by. So, being a 44 magnum, thats probably all I'll shoot through it. I'm sure that 50 to 75 rds. at a time will be all the fun my hand can take. Forgive me if this has already been answered, but my question is, although it's a ruger, what kind of life expectancy will it get shooting stricly magnum loads, nothing in the way of hot loads, probably just factory ammo. Thanks!

Probably just about forever, or close too it.
There are still an awful lot of early Blackhawk flat-tops in use that have been going strong for over half a century.

The Super Redhawk should do as well.

Factory SAMMI spec magnum loads? Well up in the 10's of thousands easliy.

Mine's over 10,000 with no signs of trouble at all.

if you work real hard at it your grandkids may find out long after your gone.

seriously SRHs are heavily built and will take a ton of abuse let alone the use your talking about.
about the only thing I've ever heard of on rugers is they'll break the transfer bar after 10s of thousands of rounds.

depending on your age, it'll probably last longer than your wrists and elbows :)

+1 on it outlasting your wrists and elbows, except that I should convey that you really can do damage to your wrists and whatnot shooting thousands of magnum rounds in your lifetime. Someone who knows something about this (as opposed to me:p) should comment about this.

Yeah, the SRH's are built like a tank. My local commercial range has one chambered in .454 Casull. If it'll take the hammering from that round you have nothing to worry about shooting .44Mag through it even if you do your own hot loads later on.

Bought a few ruger wheelguns from a guy at a gunshow a couple years back. He was selling his collection BECAUSE his wrists were shot from years of magnum wheelgunning. His doctor told him to quit running the magnums, or he would destroy his wrists.

RE: SRH mag. loads

Hey, thanks everyone for your replies. I certainly am not opposed to shooting 44 spl. through it. Out of a 53 oz. gun recoil would be like shooting a .22 cal. I wish I could find 44 spl. just for some light shooting fun. Maybe reloading is the only way to go, but its good to know that this gun will handle a study diet of magnum loads, even if can't.
