I will be in st Louis may18-21 and would like to know if the area is concealed carry friendly? Also, recommendations for a good restaurant would be appreciated? I plan to eat at the shaved duck but others would be appreciated. I would also like to see or do something firearm/hunting related, especially if it has to do with waterfowl.

Thanks guys.

Don't miss eating at The Iron Barley. Be sure to try their Weinerschnitzel and Spaetzle. It's not far from the river.

Not firearm related but I would check out Cahokia Mounds. The largest earthen mound complex in North America and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The largest mound is 100 feet high and has a 14 acre base. There is also an excellent museum but you will have to check what days it is open this time of year.

Here's your reciprocity map. You're good there.

If you ride the Metrolink I don't think you can carry. Don't know if you planned to utilize it or not. I will say it is very handy when getting around downtown. Here is a brochure from the Missouri Highway Police regarding CC questions.
Signs do carry the weight of the law there, so if a business is posted, don't carry.

As far as restaurants, my favorite pizza place and my favorite BBQ place are both in St. Louis.

For pizza go to Pirrones. St. Louis style is unique and awesome. Cracker thin crust.

For the best ribs I've ever had go to Bogarts Smokehouse.

Oh, and touring the brewery is free and very interesting. Plus 2 free beers after the tour is over.

Have fun. I'm not much of a fan of big cities, but St. Louis is a cool place.

Yes, but it is not a criminal offense. If you are carrying and they spot it, they have to ask you to leave, but you won't face any consequences as long as you do.

Make sure to try SugarFire BBQ......it has become 'the place' for the best bbq in town, and they have a few locations. And +1000 on STL style pizza, it's the best.

St. Louis is as gun friendly as any big city can be. While you are here check out Forest Park. Our zoo is considered one the best in the country and except for parking and special attractions it is free. Go to the Hill neighborhood for great Italian food.
If you are interested in history check out Jefferson Barracks. I hope you enjoy your stay. If you have specific questions pm me.

If you like classic cars, this place is neat:

A fellow gearhead and I spent at least a couple hours there, and got to see a couple of the cars driving around as the staff exercised them (including a '60s Shelby Mustang of some flavor).

The Gateway Arch and associated museum are tourist-y, but architecturally fascinating. No weapons are allowed, though, not even pepper spray.

Oh, and don't order sweet tea at a restaurant, unless you verify first that they know how to make it. Apparently it's not something everyone in STL is familiar with...

If you’re implying that STL doesn't add enough sugar to their tea, I understand what you’re talking about. I have traveled south of the Mason Dixon Line countless times and have discovered what sweet tea really is. Southern tea is sweeter that most soda’s.

I ordered sweet tea at (IIRC) a TGI Friday's in the hotel, and they brought me some sort of rasberry tea with some sort of liquid sweetener pooled at the bottom. It was awful....after tasting it, I left it alone and ordered a Coke!

Don't miss the brewery tour at Anheuiser Bush/Budweiser. Have one on me!
The ride to the top of the arch is pretty cheap and not too crowded this time of year. Best view of St.Louis there is.

Yes, you get outside the Deep South and folks do not know what sweet tea is, let alone how to make it properly.

I will put in a shameless plug for the botanical gardens near Forest Park if your in to that kind of thing. My grandfather helped build it back in the day.

They are doing a huge renovation of the Arch grounds and I'm not sure what's open and what's closed there now. This page should keep you updated on what will be open when you are there: http://www.slfp.com/View-of-Arch.html

The Cardinals are playing in New York those dates so you will miss a chance for one of the best experiences in baseball, a game at Busch Stadium. You might check out Ball Park Village next to the stadium. The St Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Team museum is there along with several restaurants and sports bars.

The National Museum of Transportation is located West of Downtown in Kirkwood: http://transportmuseumassociation.org/ They have a large collection of classic cars, railroad equipment and even a river towboat and DC3 aircraft.

There is a large Cabelas and a Gander Mountain. The Cabelas is North of the City and the Gander Mountain is South of the city in Fenton.

There are good restaurants of all kinds. Check out Gulf Shores for the best seafood and Cajun in the area: http://gulfshoresrestaurantandgrill.com/

There is Company B BBQ south of the city in House Springs MO. It's been featured on the Food Network Show, Diners, Dives and Drive ins.

Dittos on the STL-style pizza. Some like it, some don't. But, it's definitely unique, and there is no better example than Imo's Pizza, which are all over the place.

As for the gun-friendly part ... yes and no, depends on where you go. You most definitely cannot carry on public transportation (Metrolink trains and buses). In fact, you can't even carry onto their platforms. If you venture over here to the Illinois side (lots of cool things here, too, some mentioned above), out-of-state permit holders cannot carry outside of your vehicle.

Most importantly, stay the hell out of North St. Louis City (and a fair portion of the nearby County). It's a shooting gallery up there, and has gotten much worse since the Ferguson fiasco.

Be safe, be smart, and enjoy your visit.

Pappy's on Olive is one of the best Barbeque places in the country. Cardinals Baseball if you are a sports fan. Best baseball fans in the country. Missouri is a gun friendly state. The City of St Louis not as much. Stay clear of Ferguson Mo and E. St. Louis Illinois. Illinois now has concealed carry but no reciprocity with anyone. They also have some adult entertainment if you are so inclined.

Very gun friendly state with a strong preemption law. Don't get on public transit with your weapon, or try to go inside the arch.

There's plenty of great places to eat here, but where kind of depends on what kind of food you like. Sugarfire is my favorite bbq place, but theres so much variety around here its hard to answer that question without knowing personal tastes.

Thanks everyone for the restaurant and concealed carry advice. If possible, I'm going to try to tour the brewery and visit the Arch. For eateries, I will probably go to the Shaved Duck, SugarfireBBQ and probably Bogarts. Still undecided about carrying. I have a layover at Chicago OHara and have not yet flown with a firearm.
