Look at the part of the lock where the key enters, and see if there is a number stamped on it. If there is, this is your "key code". Most locksmiths who deal in keys can cut a key by code.

If there is no key code, or you can't find a locksmith who cuts those types of keys, then locate the serial number. Call the manufacturer with the serial number, and they should be able to help you out.

the number is on a sticker on the back of the cabinet. Call Stack on with it. It might also be on the lock itself, take a look.

i found the key # .. bought it to a lock smith .. and they are doing research .. they do not know who makes the lock . they link liberty ..

i found the key # .. bought it to a lock smith .. and they are doing research .. they do not know who makes the lock . they link liberty .. do u think that is correct . or is it master lock or some 3rd party lock . ? ? i cant find any info out . i called several lock smith and they said they would have to put a new lock in for 100 $ ..not worth it

I'm not a big key lock expert.......

Liberty safe would not have made the lock, as they do not manufacture locks of any type. There may or may not be another Liberty company in the lock business.

Is the key round, or is it a normal key? If it's a round key, it's considered an "ace type", and ace builds some of the locks, as well as other companies.

The key code software should give the locksmith all of the information he/she needs using the cabinet maker's name. If they can't figure it out, you're at the wrong locksmith.

I modified my 8 gun cabinet so that the guns are along either side - instaed of along the back, and lowered the separators on one side for shorter rifles.
I added some shelves above the short rifles for my pistols and a light (way up in the forward corner - out of the way - so that I could see what I'm doing when I'm in there.
I also used some magnets attached to those plastic parts bins for small parts and attached them where was room on the inside for additional secure storage and outside for general gun related stuff.
I'll have to post a picture when I can. I'm pretty proud of it :D.

Are the RSC (Residential Security Container) type stuff bombproof? Hardly.
Is a good RSC better than sticking stuff in the back of your closet? Absolutely.

My situation wouldn't allow for a safe so I bought an RSC and it's done well by me. Now we're moving to a house and a safe is #3 on the list (after a washer and a dryer <grin>).

and no lock smith can make a key .. i called about 10 of them .. i did read some stories about a bic pen ?

I have a cheap metal cabinet in a closet. I plan on adding deadbolts to both sides of the closet door. Of course, I have an old house with solid wood internal doors... Still not as good as a real safe, but better than nothin.

went ot dicks took a key from the same model # . it fits the lock but it wont turn ,, trying to dremil the key down a bit .. u think it will work ?

if not what will work to open up a 3 point lock system double sided key system. they say its pretty easy .. not for me

has anyone tried using the BIC pen ??
Never tried it, but I saw it on the news a few years ago, done on an old Kryptonite bike lock. I've heard that they changed the design on those so that it now longer works, but I don't know about the gun cabinet locks.

I have a bunch of the stack on cabinets from Academy, I bolt them together and to the wall. Added a regular padlock to each one. I keep my collection in a gun room which is okay but not super secure. I did it to organize the collection by country, keep dust off the rifles, and keeps visitors out. I will rely on tears, therapy and insurance if I am robbed. I have a heavy safe also were I keep about 12 select weapons. My ammo is in a separate room off my garage locked. I also have a regular stack on cabinet bolted to the wall in the garage and lock up my dremel, recrip.saws and normal tools so a crack head needs to bring his own tools. Also have a security system. I lacked space and $ for safes for the entire collection. Just having the collection locked, even if not the best security makes me feel better.

They make Tubular lock picks. You might look into that...

In almost every state, it is illegal to possess these types of tools unless you are a locksmith, manufacturer, auto dealership, or in the repossession business (and have the license to prove it).

If you are none of the above, then you are in possession of burglary tools.

I was surprised to see how many of you chose the cabinet over the combination lock safe. It appears to be the burliest economy safe around, ($199). I want one. But I don't want to pay $100 to ship it.

Are these the ones that use round barrel keys like in Kryptonite bike locks?

If they are, be aware that any street-punk can pick that lock in under 10 seconds with nothing but a Bic pen.

All you need to do is jam the barrel of a plastic pen tube into the lock and turn...

This is common knowledge with bike thieves, car thieves, etc. It has also been widely reported in mainstream news. Probably only honest people do not know about this weakness.

son of a.....now I'm going to have to change out my bike lock.

Strange, the things you learn on gun forums.

I have one of the 14 gun cabinets. It serves my purposes to store some of my guns close at hand (more valuable firearms are somewhere else and are well concealed). It is bolted to the wall and floor inside a hardened and alarmed walk-in closet, in a bedroom behind another hardened door. I don't think anything will stop determined and well-equipped burglers. My storage is designed to stop the casual smash and grab types and delay the others. And yes, I do have gun insurance.
