I am looking for something lower priced that I can store my rifles and shotgun in. I do realize that for the price range I am looking in, it will be more of a gun storage cabinet than an actual safe that will keep out thieves. I just need it big enough to fit 5-10 longguns. I don't need it fire proof but that would be a plus. Max I will spend is $400.

If found this one on amazon for $179. It appears to be a step up from the green stack on cabinets which look like a 5 year old can break into.

Stack on that seems to be the lowest of the low end cabinets. This one I do not want to buy. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=114219

Any other suggestions on what and where to buy a gun cabinet?

Please no lecturing about "if you can afford to buy guns, you should be able to afford to buy a high quality safe"

Seems the stack-on meets all your stated needs.
1 storage only
2 number of guns
3 not fire proof
4 not theif proof
5 cheap
i have one and it is well made for what it is and has served me well for 10 + years

Do you have a Lowes home and garden store near to you? They have a Liberty 12 gun with 5 locking points for $399.99 or even less on sale.

I am still debating which one to get. It is down to these.

-$399 at lowes

I like the lowes safe but it is the priciest. They all are not the greatest against theft BUT I feel the $89 Stack on is the easiest to break into while the others are going to be tougher.

Anyone know how much Gander Mountain would charge for Freight?

I was thinking about ordering the Stack On 10 gun safe for $229. They have free shipping but since it is oversized, there will be a undetermined freight charge. They want me to place an order and then they will let me know what the freight is once it gets ready to ship. I don't want to got through all that hassle to find out the total price. It may be more than Sports Authority which I would rather buy from since it is local but if I can save $50 online it would be great. Who knows, they may charge over $50 for freight!

If you get on Sports Authority's e-mail list, they will send you coupons. I just bought the Stack-On 8 gun cabinet using a coupon for 25% off their regular price of $120 (which was not a great price but cheaper than Cabela's).

you probably own firearms that are worth more than the cost of a safe. why worry when you leave home about guns in a cabinet. my safe may get stolen but they are gonna have one helluva job ahead of them, big dolly, cutting torch, lots of strong bodies.

Thank you everyone for your help. I decided to buy this safe based on reviews and many recommendation on another forum.

Had it for 2 days so far. I love it and I am glad I decided to buy it. Lowes also gave me 10% off!

Quality and security far exceeds my expectations. Imo any thief that would try and rob my house will have a VERY tough time getting into this. Obviously a good thief would be able to but I doubt a thief of that caliber would even attempt to rob my house. It wouldn't be worth it to them to rob a house like mine.

I am also glad I didn't dish out more money on a bigger and more secure safe.

BTW how does the safe jaymac listed from Academy compare to mine? Would it have been better to get that one?

I have a cheap stack-on... big mistake. Stupid key won't turn. Locksmith couldn't rake it... basically i'm down to drilling the lock. Any other ideas?

Awesome. Great job Stack-On.

As I posted, I bought the Liberty safe for $397 minus 10% off so about $357. They had it on black friday for $297. I got a price adjustment plus the $39/10% off (they calculated it off the 397 :) ).

So I got the safe for $257 before tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
