Recently, I picked up a Stag-15 completed lower receiver sans the stock. I got it for $200 out the door and a Bushmaster factory 10 round magazine for $20. The lower was $180 at the gun show where I saw it before but an extra $20 doesn't bother me to much.

Now I am looking for an A2 style stock assembly. Midway's February flyer has DPMS A2 stocks for $67.99, this comes complete with the buffer tube, spring, butt plate etc. Is this a good price for the stock assembly? I kind of want to keep this rifle all Stag but I would also order a couple of those plastic smoke colored 10-rounders. I also like giving business to Midway USA.

Another thing, does DPMS stocks have DPMS stamped on the buttplate or something?

Now about the upper reciever:
Doe they make standard 20" upper receivers that are MA compliant? When I bought the lower receiver they had one that was but it was a 16" version with some silly scope rail/quad rail thing on it. Looking at their site, they don't apparently. I plan on using primarily iron sights with my AR-15 but I would prefer to have the removable carry handle. They seem to cost a bit more and generally don't come with the handle but I'm planning on getting this in a couple months so I have time to save up money.

A couple more things. My lower receiver is marked:
MODEL STAG-15
CAL 5.56MM

Legally, does this limit it to only .223? I have seen some lowers marked:
CAL:MULTI
which made me wonder.

I was reading about the .50 Beowulf uppers. Apparently .59 Beowulf was made specifically to fit in regular AR-15 magazines and that 7 can fit in a standard 30 round AR-15 magazine. I don't plan on getting a .50 Beowulf but if all you had was an upper in that caliber could you legally purchase new production AR-15 30 rounders specifically to use with the .50?

Thanks guys.

Anything marked 5.56 or Multi will shoot both 5.56 and .223

As far as A2 stocks, an A2 is an A2...doesn't matter which logo is on the box. Dunno if it is stamped DPMS though. $68 is a good price for a complete stock assembly.

As far as MA compliant...I am unsure what your laws state. In NY we cannot have bayo lugs or flash hiders or removable brakes. The brakes have to be pinned if mating to a post ban lower. I had to special order my upper to be AWB compliant. You may have to do the same.

Talk to Pete aka Legal Transfers on ar15.com...best prices and very knowledgeable. He owns www.ar15sales.com and sells Stag, which he might stock in post ban configuration.

I have a Stag A2 stock and buttplate (new take-offs) that were rendered surplus when I installed an ACE Skeleton stock on my Stag M6L. I don't have the buffer tube or spring available. Interested?

Caliber marking really dont mean anything. You can change calibers at you choice. My 9mm AR is marked 5.56, I'd bet that a lot of 9mms are marked 5.56/.223.

I dont know what the MA ban is, I'm assuming its the same as the former federal ban, and I honestly dont know how available the ban compliant uppers are.

While the tubes are the same, I think the 50 Beowulf mags have a different follower than the 5.56. I know under one state's mag ban, while illegal to buy mags that hold over X amount of rounds in state, its perfectly legal to go to a neighboring state and buy all you want to take home with you. I dont know if that's MA or MD.

The MA ban restricts collapseable stock of any kind, flash hiders and bayonet lugs. The magazine ban is you can't have any current production magazines over 10 rounds, if they were made prior to 1994 when the federal ban was enacted its fine.

The thing is, I'm trying to keep it all Stag arms, for the most part. I'm not putting Del-ton down, nor am I saying they don't function well its just a personal thing.

I'm thinking though, if Legal Transfers can't do a post ban 20", would it fly with the BATFE if I got the upper receiver and then removed the bayonet lug myself and removed and re crowned the barrel?

BATFE doesn't care about the barrel, bayonet lug, and flash hider. Thats an MA thing.

Can you have a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider?
I sell a lot of Stag uppers to CA and it's no big deal to swap out a bird cage for a YHM 5M brake.
I also have lugless front sight assemblies.

Pete

If you reconsider keeping it all "Stag," you could save a bunch of money at Del-Ton.

Del-Ton's uppers are CMT (Continental Machine Tool), the same company that makes the Stag lowers. I believe their barrels are made by Wilson Arms. I can't say for sure, but I would bet that Wilson also makes Stag's barrels--Wilson makes LOTS of companies' AR15 barrels. Call them and ask--they will probably tell you who makes their parts.

I just built an AR15 with a Stag lower and Del-Ton upper. The fit is perfect.

My favorite Ar build is a 16" A2. DPMS upper on a Stag lower. Runs great and I don't mind the antler logo at all..........Essex

Check the EE at Arfcom for stocks and parts.

Oh, and avoid plastic mags unless they are Magpul PMAGs.

I've had decent luck with orlites, but I wouldnt buy them now. I got mine during the ban and paid 7 bucks for them, now that they're between ten and fifteen bucks I can buy USGI mags for the same price.
