Just got a new model 3 from Stag Arms with a .22 conversion. The gun is a great value at about $770 shipped from Grabagun. So far 22s are all I have shot with the CMMG conversion kit (stainless). Tried Federal bulk and CCI mini mags. The accuracy was disappointing. Bench-rested the best groups were about 4-5 inches at 50 yards. At 25 yards maybe 2-3. Is that all one can expect because a 1in9 twist just isn't what 22s like?

Then over to 223 ammo. I called SA customer service who said i can expect 1-2 inch groups at 100 yards. Is this what you guys are getting? With factory ammo (which) or only with tuned hand loads?

Stag told you correct 1-2 inches @100 yards with commercial ammo, I added a geissele SSA-E trigger and with reloads average groups .750 with some .500 if I'm having a good day. I have not heard of much accuracy from the 22lr conversions because of the twist but try as many brands of ammo as possible.

I actually just bought the full .22 AR from CMMG. I heard horror stories about how inaccurate the conversion is with the 5.56 barrel. But I paid ALOT more. I paid $475 or so for the .22 AR. So factor that in with my S&W M&P, and I have $1300+ in them. My .22 is as accurate as any auto loading .22 I have ever owned. It shoots almost exactly like my Nylon 66. While I do love the .22, I almost wish I had gotten the conversion due to lost intrest in the rifle. I hardly ever shoot it anymore.

I've yet to shoot any AR that wouldn't shoot 2" with generic ammo and some sort of glass, around 1" or less with match grade ammo. The AR's set up with target barrels and good glass will often do MUCH better.

Put in a Geissele Super Semi Automatic today.

Paid about $180 for the trigger which IHMO is a lot for just a trigger, but this is one REALLY GOOD trigger. Somewhat tricky to put in if you have never done this before but there are a couple excellent detailed videos on Youtube from Geissele. To make a long story short, with this trigger the Stag model 3 is not a good rifle, but a pretty freakin GREAT rifle. Add a vertical grip or Magpul angled fore end and you are in business. I will use this gun for action rifle shooting competitions. Ours don't usually exceed 50 yards, so thats what I sighted the scope in for (Trijicon TR24). Fast shooting, fast resets, fast target acquisition. Accurate enough (1-2" groups at 50 yards with cheap Russian Ulyanovsk ammo. <1" with quality factory rounds).

Count, this is a question that is asked by many who just get into a new rifle. My advise would be to not worry about it, because you're just going to be tearing your hair out.

I'd also ignore others' claims of .5MOA "all day long," because few shooters are proficient enough to live up to that claim, much less their rifles. Unless there's something wrong with your rifle, it's going to be more than accurate enough for what most people do with an AR.

As far as the .22 goes, conversion kit accuracy ranges from mediocre to horrible. As mentioned, try out as many different types of ammunition as you can and settle on the one that shoots the best. I've pretty much given up on the idea of an AR chambered in .22. My 15-22 just collects dust most of the time.
