I'm trying to decide between the Stag 2H or 3H upper. The main difference is that the 2H has the standard AR front sight tower, whereas the 3H "gasblock" design has no front sight at all and requires a flip up front BUIS.

For mounting optics like a Leupold CQ/T will the front sight tower of the Stag 2H get in the way of the sight picture, or should I look at getting the 3H with the sights that fold out of the way?

The downside of the 3H is that it does not have the side sling mount of the 2H. I'm looking at trying my hand at a carbine course or some 3 gun competition. Is a side sling mount much of a benefit?

For comparison, both uppers are on the Stag site here:

Yeah I know, the CQ/T catches a lot of crap as being ugly and not an ideal optic, but I used one on my friend's AR (he is a local SWAT guy) and he likes it. I thought the CQ/T was decent but not ideal. However, if you buy it used it costs 1/4 of the price of an S&B short dot.

Thanks for the info! :)
