I'm getting a S&W Mountain Gun. OK that was the easy decision. Now I need to decide between blued (model 25) or stainless (625). I like the stainless for ease of care, but the blued finish just does something good to me. It looks right on a S&W revolver. So tell me what you think: Blued or Stainless.

Thanks,

Stainless guns have no personality, soul, panache, or class. About as exciting as a ballpeen hammer.

A glossy blue steel revolver is a work of art.

Stainless is very easy to care for, but will show carbon build up more. I'm partial to stainless, because I believe that the guns soul is not present upon conception, but develops though shooting.

Personally I am a stainless man. I like the look of a glossly blue but man they can be a PITA to keep up on. I'll take a stainless over blue...especially for a carry or hunting gun.

Stainless or Blued???

30 years from now when your hunting days are over and you want to sell your handgun, well the stainless will still look new , or the blued one will look like it's been through the war. Blued is nice but stainless will hold it's value better. Piece of mind is worth the few bucks extra that the stainless costs is well worth the price. :)

Sell your handgun?:what:

My kids know I'm to be buried with my Randall bowie knife and my .45. I don't know where I'm going, but I want both hands full when I get there.

Stainless may be easier to maintain, but a well maintained blued gun just has something about it. You laugh at me or what ever you want, but a worn well maintained blued gun has character. If you want easy to maintain stainless is the way to go, but I like blued revolvers.

You gonna make love to your gun or use it? Love = blue. Use = stainless.
Personally, I live near saltwater. It's stainless all the way.

Well, let's give some resolution to this thread. Last night I made an offer on a brand new, never fired, Smith & Wesson Model 25 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt. It was accepted. I had been leaning towards stainless for ease of up keep (my other .45 colt is a stainless Ruger Bisley), but I saw a Blued MG at my local dealer and after checking it out, I realized it was beautiful. I went back home and emailed my offer to a gentleman from Conn. on the S&W forum.

This will be a keeper, so I'm not too worried about "character" accumulating, but I am worried enough about rust that I might look into trading this in unfired condition plus a little cash for a stainless one if my local Gander Mountain can make it work. If they can't, I got a killer deal and I won't worry about it, I'll just get a good lined holster--for what I saved i should get 2--and carry and shoot this thing.

I'll post a review once I get it and get to the range.

Thanks for all the input and insight.

My thoughts edzachary, Vern!

Have both stainless and blued revolvers, and very much appreciate both....but it's up to you what you want for appearance and as others have mentioned, maintenance

Ha ha ha ha ha..... if you thought my stainless has No class or Soul, you must think even less about my Gold.... Ha ha ha ha ha....

Stainless = Painless

Stainless all the way here in Alaska by the water !!!!
Mod 629 Classic 6.5" STAINLESS !!
Security Six 4" STAINLESS !!
Both Shot alot both easy to maintain and no worry in the field during bad weather !!

I've got to go with stainless. Mainly because I commercial fish here in Alaska and have after 30 years of moisture, seen my Python go from beautiful to not so beautiful.

If you are going to be using the gun in adverse conditions, make it stainless.
