I know holsters can wear the blueing off a gun. But what about a stainless gun? Can holsters start to wear, scuff the metal, bead blasting? Depend on quality of holster??
Yes, any holster will wear the finish on any pistol over time. I can see ever so slight holster wear on my Smith's stainless slide. One thing that I do to prevent wear from developing (among other things) is to put on/ take the gun off while holstered, instead of removing and reinserting it every time I decide to put it on. I know that storing a pistol in a holster can be problematic as well; but I take enough precautions to prevent damage to the pistol.
As others said, sure. You'll get "polished" spots on matte-finish guns. You'll get dulled/scuffed spots on bright polished guns.
That's how you can tell a GOOD gun. If it has honest holster wear, its owner must trust it and carry it often. If a gun has a perfect finish it either isn't very reliable so the owner won't carry it, or hasn't proved itself to be yet 'cause it spends all its time on a shelf in the safe. But what good is that?
So what? Good honest holster wear is a mark of use, and sign of the respect you have for a weapon that you feel good enough to carry it everyday. Seriously, of all the things that degrade the value of a gun in my opinion holster wear is WAY at the bottom.
