how much difference in accuracy would switching from std to mag primers make in 45 acp? i am using 4g bullseye so it is light to start with i wondered if it would be noticable at all?

Ok...I went around and around on this topic when primers started to become scarce. All I could find were magnum small rifle primers when all my loads were built up with regular small rifle primers. I went through the hassle of working them up again and I got literally the same result. Now, I did NOT use a chronograph although I should have (don't got one...). Just shot a bunch of loads up to 100 yards and my old accuracy load had equal amounts of Varget when compared to the new magnum loaded primers. That's not to say it will translate over in pistol loads but since you're using light loads anyway, I doubt you'll see much difference. Let us know how they shoot.

I've found magnum primers tend to make the SD numbers get bigger in rifles but in a 45acp with standard loads I doubt you see any difference.

well i was checking my POI at 10 yards is how this started, i didnt think there would be a problem so i went ahead and got 600, i decided to enter the july handgun match and my score was not what i was looking for so i decided i ought to check my POI, well it was where i expected but my groups had gotten bigger ...now i may just need to clean my barrel or check for leading, plan to this morning.... but i went from shooting several groups at 50' into 2"......to about 2" at 30 feet slowfire......except for some 255g slugs over 4g TB, which went into an inch or less for six

so i wonder if mag primers could open groups an inch...... i also lost count of which loads still had the std primers in them(about 30) and which had been loaded with mag primers(82).... so it may not make a difference with just std or just mag against eachother, but howabout mixed ammo? i tried to separate them and shoot up all the leftover std primers but there may still be a few left.

I don't know about opening groups an inch, but I have gotten better accuracy with standard primers over mag primers in a couple of pistol apps that call for standard primers.
