How much difference is there between standard lrp compared to lp magnum primers. I'm using LP in my cast bullet loads 243. Would I benefit any using LP magnum primers???

Based on the ideas used in the development of the ppc rounds, the smallest primer charge that gives good ignition is the best. I believe it would also move your load window a small amount.

Thing is, LP primers are about 0.02" shorter than LR's. Depending on your firing pin protrusion you might not get enough contact with the LP to set them off.

Pressure is another issue, but with cast loads might be OK. I don't know.

It can’t hurt to try a few. Best case, you get more consistent ignition. Worst case, you get more pressure. You’re already in a lower pressure zone so you might as well. Let us know how it goes.

It would be helpful to have data to know if your current solution is providing good ignition and burn. If you had a 15 SD or less I'd be inclined to stay on course. It's not like lrp are more available.

There are no large rifle anywhere. I check the web twice a day.. so I've been using LP for my 243 cast bullet loads. Red Dot, Blue Dot, unique, trail boss. Etc...

OK.

If you are already using LPP's in your cast loads, and getting reasonable results from them, and considering those flake (or fluffy) powders... I would just keep doing what you are doing, I would not introduce a Magnum primer.

I guess?? that my first question would be, what/why are you using PISTOL Primers in RIFLE loads??
Cast loads, or not-Your .243 Win. loads WILL have too high of pressure for ANY Pistol primer..
ALSO==Any Large Pistol primer is shorter than a Rifle primer.?? Any light strikes??
Just my 2 cents worth..Bill.

PS: Just read the whole thread==Kinda see your point..Bill.
