Hello, new here. I am having a discussion with a co-worker. I have a Star 30M 9mm in good condition I am trying to sell locally here in OKC for $275 with four 15 round magazines (3 being S&W) without much luck (I haven't put much effort into it yet). I saw this gun in the Gun List a few months ago for $250 in good condition. I have the original box and all documentation, if that matters any. My co-worker says I would be lucky to get $100 for this gun. Which one of us is crazy? Thanks for any advice.

I'd say that your friend is the crazy one.

Glancing at www.GunBroker.com, I see that folks have bid up to $265 for a like-new Star 30M.

With four mags, original box, and the fact that you're FTF, I'd say $275 is not unreasonable.

Have you posted a "For Sale" ad here on THR? The last group of forums on our main page is for sales, and moves pretty quick. Moves a lot faster if you post a picture of the product.

Good luck, -MV

Thank you for the feedback. No, I haven't posted it up for sale here yet. I just may do that. I just started looking into getting something more compact to carry, so I will probably be looking for advice on that in the future.

No problem; we have a disproportionate number of people buying and selling firearms in OKC on the THR boards, so it should be a good place for you.

If it were me, I'd start at $275, post a good pic, and bring the price down if nobody nibbled after a week.

PIC HINT: if at all possible, use natural light rather than flash, and try to put your firearm against an attractice backdrop (rather than grungy carpet). Excessive flash and bad backdrops are bad for sales (grin).

Here's my attempt at a sales pic:

Keep it! Very underrated weapon and a personal favorite of mine. No,it's not small or light enough for CCW but they are very accurate and reliable.

The all steel Model 30 has lasted 100,000 rounds, the only thing replaced was around 80,000, was the barell, that was shot out.... it was a rental gun I heard....Compared to the plastic and alloy framed guns out there, it will last 2 or 3 generations....
I think the 30 was the best gun Star made. Too, bad they are out of business.

Thanks for all the advice. I do like this gun. I am an probably an average shooter at best, but I believe this gun is very accurate. I don't spend alot on guns, so by hopefully by selling this gun and some money saved I will have some money saved for a CCL and a little more compact to carry.

Sell it and you'll hate yourself in the morning. Stars were all great pistols. A little heavy and a little crude but reliable and pretty accurate. Have run thousands of rounds thru the Model 30 and the Firestar. Never a jam and they will deposit the empty cases in a nice little pile (sort of). Sorry they are out of business. Just not pretty enough. Hanging on to mine.

I came here looking for better tips on selling this gun. Now I am debating with myself if I want to sell it. Thanks alot.:)

I have a nib Star model 31-P with two spare magazines. I have never shot it, but it appears to be a well made pistol. It is suppose to be the final product from the model 30. The model 30 was entered in the US army pistol contest years ago. They went Beretta, but you already know that. I probably will never sell mine. I might even shoot it some day. They are a nice all steel pistol. Try to find a all steel 9mm today. They are getting harder to find.
I recommend you hang onto your m30. Once it's gone, you will regrete it.

John!
