Like a lot of people I recently bought a Star BM. Can they be safely carried cocked and locked? I am thinking that it can since it is a 1911 type action but want to be sure.
Yes, they can. I, and every other PD owner I've ever talked to, carry this way. The PD is just a lighter, bigger caliber BM. Just as a tip, if you haven't already found this out, holsters for the Colt Officers Model should be just the ticket for your Star.
Cocked and locked, or empty chamber are your only safe options with the Star BM since on all the ones I've seen the firing pin protudes when the hammer is down.
The Star BM safety blocks the hammer not the just the sear, notice that the hammer moves back a bit when you engage the safety.
