Star Firestar .40 S&W does not eject the last fired case

The Star has been fixed, and now works fine. If you still want to do the pics, it will serve to be helpful in the future for me and probably for other Star Firestar owners. I ran in to a gunsmith at a gun show, today. He relieved the the inside of the extractor where it touches the slide, and polished the part of the tip of the hook of the extractor that touches the rim of the case when it is being pulled out of the barrel. The smith said there was essentially not enough extractor tension against the case. (There was more than enough spring pressure, the extractor just needed a bit of relief to allow the hook to put more pressure against the spent case.)
This gunsmith had never seen a Star Firestar before today. The primary auto he works on (in addition to revolvers and long guns) is the .45 1911. He just applied the principles of gunsmithing to solve the problem. If anyone is interested in contacting this smith, send me a PM, and I will furnish his contact information.

Alright...Glad Ray posted those photos. I, also, have been away from this forum for a while.
The only thing I can add to Ray's photos is watch out for that spring. It's tiny and gets lost real easy. And is a rather stiff spring. But the change out is rather simple and straight forward.

I am glad I did not attempt the removal myself. I would have tried to drive the pin out from the top.
Speaking of removal, is the ambidextrous safety easy to remove?

Neilin; It has been at least 2 years since I last detail-stripped the M43. Don't remember the process with any great clarity. I'll dig around in my manuals to see where I found the guidance I used.
On a related note, Steven Hoober wrote an important warning on this page. To paraphrase, be very careful to *NOT* over-rotate the safety on a Firestar pistol when the grip panels are removed. You could easily lose a very small, and very difficult to replace, part important to the safe operation of the pistol.
