Brand new Starline 45ACP+P brass is scratching the powder funnel. Leverage required to lower shell plate is tremendous, torquing my bench more than 50BMG resize.

all other brass works fine.

I have loaded more than 100,000 45ACP in the last 8 years and have never seen this.

Are the case walls thicker on +P? if so, this would seem to contradict SAAMI protocol.

Known issue; burr on inside lip of cartridge. Quick deburr before first loading or it will pretty much disappear on its own after the first firing.

Is the Dillon powder funnel aluminum or steel??

If it's steel, there is no possible way brass is scratching it.

It may have brass rub-off galled to it, and that is sticking.

Clean it will steel wool or fine emery paper, lube very lightly with case lube.

And Gofer It!

Agree on the scratches being brass galling. Funnel is chrome plated steel.

Galling will polish off with dremel soft wheel and flitz.

light wax coating helps for about 10 cases then it all starts over.

Tumble the brass and that should impart enough "debris" to the inside of the case to lubricate it and the bare brass will no longer stick to the expander.

Starline washes their brass before shipping, and you're dealing with bare brass. It needs some lubrication to size properly. I've run into this with several calibers of Starline brass when it's new.

Hope this helps.

Here is click and paste from starline website

I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ALSO. HERE IS THE FIX THAT STARLINE DOES FREE OF CHARGE.

"There are two situations that create this problem. The first is one we have just recently identified. It seems to be associated with the dillon powder funnel and only a couple of calibers (45 Auto and 40 S&W). The land for expanding case mouth is too long and when you begin to bell mouth the bottom of expander gets into the thicker taper of case and wedges causing it to be very hard to get back out. We have modified several by increasing radius on end and slightly shortening expanding land and this eliminated the problem completely. Call Starline and we will take care of it if you wish. One other cause can be a burr at case mouth created by the final trim operation, which grabs onto expander as it comes back up. This situation does not often appear and can be fixed by deburring case mouth or inside lubing cases."

Tumble your cases with walnut and Nu finish, the wax film prevents this issue.
I have to tumble all of my STM cleaned brass because of this, plus its retard oxidation and aid in easier extration
