Well I got my steel I ordered, 1/4" x 1 3/4" x 1'...3 of those... Anywho, I tried annealing today.

I wasn't expecting to use so much fuel!
(1) Is there a trick to either make charcoal at home or somewhere to get it cheaper?
I can get mine from the local grocery up the street for 6 bucks for 18 lbs, and might be able to get it a tad cheaper from the Wal-Mart a little ways away... but at this rate, I'll be spending an average of 10 bucks of fuel on each knife.

It's kind of hard to explain the annealing facility that I set up, but it was rigged up quickly after my first one got melted by the steel :uhoh:
(2) Is it going to hurt anything if I anneal it more than once? I don't know how well my rigged facility will work, and I may have to redo it.

Thanks for the help.

I would suggest you take this type of question to bladeforums. I would think their knifemaker forum would be much better suited for this discussion.
