After a lifetime of shooting a 10/22 woody (actually wore out the OEM trigger group), got to thinking about an old REMINGTON 581 that was gifted to a buddy because he had a young son, and never really liked the 5-round magazine.

Saw the RAR/compact w/ the 10/22 rotary mag and figured that that would be a pretty neat deal.

What a sweet little rifle.

Added a set of TechSights Aperture sights, so it is set up like the one in this vid (though they don't call it out as a compact).

Will make a golf ball dance at 50 yards from field positions and Aguilla or AE22 ammo.

I attended an Appleseed event two years ago and there were several set up like this. They seemed to do well.

I like that set up on your 10/22. I picked up new Tech Sights for my SKS but have yet to install them. You are correct though, aperture sights are the way to go.

.......... Especially for us older guys who start to notice how fuzzy those iron sights are getting. I'm surprised they aren't more popular and widespread. They rarely lose zero and I've never had one fog up. Lots of folks have just never experienced them enough to appreciate them.

I gotta ask.

How many rounds does it take to wear out a trigger group in a 10/22?

Also, I love my Ruger American rimfires. Accurate, reliable, and a pretty good trigger all while utilizing the 10/22 Mags.

I'm not in the market for a .22 right now, but I'd sure give the RAR a close look if I were.
