~Starting to get into AR's - have questions~

All brand loyalty aside, Colt has built and still builds what I consider to be the highest quality AR-15 for the civilian shooter. Colt does more QC checks than any other manufacturer, and those inspections cost money. Colt prices are often inflated over what they "should" cost because the demand is high and the supply is low. The nice thing is that whatever brand of AR you choose, it is very, very likely that you will get a good one.

Colt pre-ban rifles are of excellent quality. I have 3 Colt pre-bans, 2 "green label" rifles and a "blue label". All have chrome-lined chambers and bores, full circle bolt carriers, magnafluxed and proofed bolts, and are extremely accurate and 100% reliable. That I consider Colt to be the best does not imply that I think all other brands are junk. Bushmaster, RRA, DPMS and Armalite (as well as some smaller "upstart" makers) all make quality ARs. But the combination of 1/7" rifling, chrome bore and chamber, MP'd and shot-peened bolt and carrier, handguards made of the right material, plus a host of QC inspections combine to make Colt the right choice for me.

With excellent Colt pre-bans being available now for $900 - they're a great choice!

In my time in the airforce I've shot plenty of colts. Brand loyalty aside, I dont think they're anything special.

now honestly, I've never shot a civilian colt. If the receiver and bolt modifications (to prevent full-auto tampering) help it shoot missiles and lasers, I don't know.
