Stashed guns

Do none of you guys worry about what happens if somebody breaks in when you aren't home? Finds your stashed pistol and waits for you to come home so you can open your safe with your gun pointed at you?

A burglary is far more likely than a "home invasion" or break in at night. Guns don't keep you and your possessions safe. $500 is better spent on lighting or locks if you already have a pistol.

I just like guns. Only keep one loaded and it's on me or on the table. Don't kid yourself that having loaded weapons everywhere means being secure.

Of course we worry about this. Aside from reasonable precautions, there is only so much you can do to prevent such an occurrence.

As for keeping us and our possessions "safe"...safety is relative. Always has been, always will be. A gun is only one more tool in a toolbox full of tools which we have available to use.

Your solution works for you in your circumstances and meets your personal wickets with respect to "reasonableness". I won't gainsay this any more than I would for most other people.

I do worry about theft. I dont worry about someone breaking into my house, finding my guns, and then lying in wait to kill me with it.

The problem the cost and space a real safe takes up. Any of the inexpensive vaults are so easy to defeat they are useless against a real burglar. A real safe cost more than all my guns combined and will take up precious space in our small home.

The small Amsec ones were specifically identified as not safe in one of the videos where small gun safes were tested, either https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRgmvwxwZUk&feature=youtu.be or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEsxltQ4ZCM, I don't remember which one now. (Either way these videos are quite eye-opening, many of the small safes can be opened by a TODDLER in a matter of seconds.)
The particular Amsec Lock Box that I have is not in any of the videos. I don't like "Gun Vault" or any electronic lock. Mine have the manual 5-button lock, found on Canon, Amsec, V-Line & Fort Knox boxes.
