Stat BM reoil spring replacement

I want to replace the recoil spring on my Star model BM and I don't know how to remove the spring from the full length spring guide rod. It operates well with the stock spring and my lead 147 gr reloads which are loaded fairly stiff within Hogdon recommendations for HS-6. It won't functiom properly with my less powerful lead 124 gr reloads.
Both loads work fine in a Glock 17 amd Beretta 92. I have Wolff 12 and 14 pound springs to try out.

Compress the spring a bit from the front and hold with smooth pliers or in your vise. Unscrew the plate at the rear with a crescent wrench or pliers.
Replace spring in reverse order.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't get a grip with vice that would keep the guide rod from spinning. I'll try again tomorrow with some rosin.

Make sure you are gripping the rod and not the spring collar.
