Can you believe that Pennsylvania, Conneticut and Washington have a higher percentage of adults with concealed carry permits than states like Texas, Arizona, or Florida?

Even Oklahoma has a higher percentage than Texas :) Texas has only 1.62% of all adults.

South Dakota, on the other hand, would be the wrong place to try and pull something with 7.45% of adults having a permit.

That is strange that Texas is so low.

But we still have the handgun "travel" law, plus being able to keep a long gun in the car all the time.

Maybe a lot of people feel the they only need a handgun on the road.

It doesn't account for the difference in the percentages but I've found that people are just plain lazy.

Friends of friends have wanted me to introduce them to and practice for the CHL or teach them the basics of gun handling.
Only 1 in 15 ever get off their butts and do it, even with the use of free ammo and the opportunity to fire almost any gun you can name. :banghead:

Indiana only at 6.79? Hmmm, I must hang out with the wrong crowd. :D

M2, carry of long guns legal in Indiana as well. I think Texas is so low because of the barriers to entry ($125 fee, test, dress code restrictions, inter alia). Indiana has far fewer restrictions. Once the good people of Texas start to do away with these restrictions more will carry (legally). :)

The PA numbers don't surprise me, but then I live here.

6.76% woohoo.

I constantly meet people and then find out they also have an LTCF. I do know that quite a few who have LTCF's don't actually carry all that often. In my immediate family of 5 people 4 have LTCF's and I'm the only one who really carries every day.

Being that we have no fingerprinting, no testing, and it only costs $19 and generally takes less than a week to get a LTCF in PA a lot of people get them just so that when going to and from the range or whatnot they won't run afoul of silly laws about ammo and firearms transport. If you happen to have the ammo and firearms in a bag on the front seat of your car it's technically illegal without the LTCF.

The reason above is also a good reason to give to the fence sitters so they won't just immediately think you're a wacko. Then you start converting them.

I certainly agree with that.
I've met many people that have the impression that it's difficult and costly to get the license so they don't even try.
Some say the heck with it and continue to carry their pistol in the glove box.

When I tell them it's only a one day (interesting) thing and not that difficult some reconsider.
When I tell them that my friend's 8 & 9 year old boys easily passed the shooting requirement with a little 22 Beretta, they are surprised.
(the biggest gun the younger boy could operate at the time)
But, I still have to tell them that the first license will cost them about $200 :fire:

1.70% Michigan

Seems a little low for me considering all of the CCW classes ( required by state ) are always sold out about two weeks before the class comes up. Kinda makes me wonder what the % will be after the new Census gets done.

Dress code to carry in TX.!?!
What's the requirements? Lizard skin cowboy boots and a Stetson? I've got to go to Packing.org and find out about the "Dress Code"

The dress code restrictions are simply that the handgun must be CONCEALED. Sometimes, esp. in South Texas in the summertime (i.e. from late February through early November) it is not exactly pleasant to carry a substantial piece and conceal it well. The stakes are high, so I will put up with wearing 2 layers (always a cotton T-shirt between my sweat-producing skin and the gun), including 1 that is usually a long shirt, but sometimes is a suitcoat or sportcoat (oh, that's fun when its pushing 100 degrees, let me tell you).

Otherwise, I always try to wear my boots. After all, its the law down here! :D

Oregon is high due to the state is actually rural with portland and eugene running the place.

But, you'd be surprised how many in eugene have a CCW :D.

(If this state would allow washington to annex portland, it would be a great state).

Thanks Sam. Just got back from Packing.org and found nothing. But the "must cover at all times" applies to us in SC too. Also cannot footprint. Just found out that I have to get refingerprinted to get my renewal next year. ***? Has my prints changed in 5 years? :banghead: What a waist of time!

No, thanks.

We've already got Seattle. That's enough!

People don't realize, we have a lot of anti-gun liberal types down here in Texas these days, with all the Californians and New Yorkers moving in. Houston, Dallas, and don't even get me started about Austin, all have sizeable numbers of liberal types. But, so far, as a state we're still pretty pro-gun. Thank God.

Since one's vehicle is an extension of one's home here in NM I am not suprised. Of course most of the new arrivals retiring from CA and NY would probably be shocked to find out how many folks here have a little something in the vehicle. Or a big something.

And then there is Catron county. :D If I could figure out some way to make a living there I would have to try it out. Open carry for everybody! :D

I'm from Washington and I can believe it. I have heard that we have more NRA members per capita than any other state. Also, most of Washington is pretty rural and still has a lot of its 'frontier' mentality. There are a HECK of a lot of liberal gun owners here... myself included. Most Washinton State liberals aren't so bad... They have a socially libertarian slant. In fact, our Democrat governor just signed a reciprocity bill. :)

I was surprised to see NV so low. 0.58% is just sad.

I'm not suprised, as I rarely run into adults here that know that CCW is so easy to get or that you can have a weapon in the car. Even after they know they aren't interested, or say "One of these days" and it never gets done. It's just not a priority to most.

I can sure believe that PA is one of the top CCW states. With the exception of the areas around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, we are heavily armed. :D

And don't forget to check out the rest of the blog Bartholomew linked to. I hear the author is really smart, witty, writes well, and is good looking to boot. ;)

Oh no, why wasn't Illinois on the list? :cuss: Oh yeah, I forgot that Dictator Daley and Blago run the state.
