in my latest e-mail from midway usa, one of the things they are trying to sell is "military over run" 7.62x51 ammo.

that is fine, but i am unsure about the bullet. a "copper clad steel jacket" with a lead core. i am a bit leary about sending a steel core bullet down a steel barrel. i am sure copper clad means just enough to color. i would think that a steel jacket would be thinner than a standard copper jacket, so it would deform into the rifling without raising pressures. i just can not help wonder if a steel on steel is going to be harmful to a civilian barrel i do not know if mil spec barrels are tougher than std. production civilian barrels or not.

Soft steel. Softer than barrel steel. No problem.

A lot ranges won't allow it though. Indoor ranges because of backstop damage & outdoors because of fire danger.

We go through this every week, it seems.
What it comes down to is that it might very well wear more than copper or the usual gilding metal. Maybe your grandchildren will be able to tell. You won't.

thanks for the replies. i was always told, "if you do not know, ask." so i did. and now i know. thanks again.
